An Impressive Genoa
The Olimpico’s surface has just gone through a face-lift but resisting a rugby match followed by a Serie A encounter would be asking too much. Due to this, since the stadium will be used for the rugby match between Italy and Argentina on Saturday, the match between Juventus and Genoa valid for the 12th day of the championship has been put forward.
The match will in fact take place on Thursday night, an encounter between two of the teams who have shown great physical conditions. Genoa is only one point behind the bianconeri. With twenty points from six victories, two draws and three defeats.
Even though the victories of the Grifoni all came from home matches and the Ligurian team does not seem to be unbeatable when playing away from the Marassi, one must say that the two draws were against Inter and Udinese, not exactly the last of the class. And if this is not enough the two points came during the last two away matches meaning that Genoa’s negative trend is changing.
Gasperini’s team has had to deal with quite a though match schedule up to now : Milan, Fiorentina, Napoli, Inter, Udinese, Catania and Palermo are teams which they have already played against.
A brief look at the league table and without taking Lazio and Juventus into consideration all of the fore-mentioned teams form part of the left-hand side of the table, not to mention the fact that on the other side of the table one finds Roma whom Genoa already beat. Hence, Genoa is one of the best teams in this year’s Serie A and if this is not enough they also have the current top-scorer Milito who scored 9 goals up to now.
“Il Principe” is not the only arrow for Gaperini’s bow, who with his 3-4-3 knows how to entertain. Very high wing-backs, including Juventus ex-player Palladino, who had a great performance in the recent 4-0 victory against Reggina.
With regards to formation, the midfield will be probably without Mesto who is suffering from a muscle injury but the defence will see the return of another ex-Juventus player : Mimmo Criscito who is hoping to get back with a bang.
