Legrottaglie And Marchisio, Objective Europe

Legrottaglie and Marchisio, or rather the thinking brains behind the Juventus play. The first, elegant as very few others are, the defensive director of Ranieri’s formation, the person who puts the defence in order, who calls for off-side, who, together with Giorgio Chiellini forms one of the most reliable couples in the championship.

The second is the engine of the midfield: young but with great expertise, having played for Juventus for the last 14 years, he is the man to whom one must pass the ball knowing for sure it will not be lost. Both have had a great year. For Nicola, it was so great that he finds it hard to identify one particular moment to remember:

"There isn’t a particular episode. I think my whole season was positive because playing for Juventus at this level, I think was my greatest emotion". Claudio on the other hand has a precise moment in mind: "Surely my confirmation and return to Turin to continue my adventure with Juventus was the most beautiful moment".

The satisfaction for what Juventus managed to achieve in 2008 is a common factor: "We managed to reach great levels coming from a year in the Serie B and putting ourselves back at the highest levels of the Serie A", points out the Duke. "The quality of Juventus is having been capable of never giving up, in all matches, especially against the big teams and the third place achieved last year was a great result" says Claudio.

The objective for the new year has a European horizon: "I expect even more out of this year – explains Legrottaglie – and most of all to find Juventus in Rome on the 27th of May". "We want to go as far as possible in the championship, Champions League and Coppa Italia", echoes Marchisio.

Just like the two personalities the events which struck them mostly in 2008 are different:
"The collapse of the stock markets will surely leave its mark for many years to come – underlines Nicola – On a personal level what impressed me positively is having seen so many people grow spiritually. This has left me with a full heart".

"There was that terrible accident in Spain – remembers Claudio – I am afraid of flying and I was very deeply struck by the lack of attention in aeroplane maintenance".

The last training session for 2008 for the bianconeri was held in Vinovo covered in fog. The team worked in the morning following the same program of the first session. Normal training session for the group with Buffon, Nedved, Iaquinta and Poulsen present. Trezeguet underwent a separate session.

At the end of the session, Claudio Ranieri granted two days of rest to the team in order to be able to celebrate the new year with their families.

The team will meet again on Saturday 3rd January for a morning session at the Juventus Center in Vinovo. This session should see the return of practically the whole squad with the return of Camoranesi, Tiago and Knezevic. The only person missing will be Zebina who will return towards the middle of January.

The team will then begin its preparation for the championship match against Siena to be played on Sunday 11th January. However, on the 6th of January, Juventus will meet the French side Monaco in a friendly to be played in Messina with kick-off at 18:00hrs.

Good News From Vinovo

While awaiting the start of the new year, 2008 is coming to a close with good news. Besides the results obtained by the team, the last being the victory against Atalanta, Claudio Ranieri has received good signs on the first day of training following the Christmas break.

As per schedule, the team met at the Juventus Center for an afternoon session which was also witnessed by guest Massimo Giletti. Practically the whole group took part in the session including 4 of the bianconeri who had been halted due to various injuries: Buffon, Iaquinta, Nedved and Poulsen who are now fully-recovered.

Del Piero worked regularly on the field notwithstanding an injury incurred during the last match in Bergamo. On that occasion, the captain fractured the base of his index finger of the left hand. Subsequently he will have to wear a support for a few days but this will not effect his daily training on the field.

The only injured player present at Vinovo who had a separate training session was Trezeguet. Camoranesi, Knezevic and Tiago were granted a few days more of rest (since they worked at Vinovo up to the 23rd of December) and will join the rest of the team on the 3rd of January following the two days off granted by Ranieri to celebrate the new year. Zebina is currently recovering from the operation he underwent in a Tuscan clinic.

The last training session for 2008 will take place tomorrow Wednesday 31st December after which the team will rest for two days in order to celebrate the new year with their families.
