Buffon: "Against Bayern It Will Be A Match For Fearless Hearts"

"It was an occasion to take immediately, but on the other hand the beautiful thing about football is this: teams that will be fighting against relegation at the end of the season, in the starting matches can create difficulties and therefore we must take this draw…At the moment it is ok to be second behind Sampdoria, but it is clear that we could have had a greater point margin from inter and this would have been the most important thing".
Gigi Buffon, while speaking on Juventus Channel, does not attempt to hide: the draw against Bologna hurts, especially since it came in the last minutes when the three points seemed assured:
"Conceding a goal at the end always makes one angry, even if you are winning 5-0. It is a pity because with a bit more attention, certain goals at the end of the match can be avoided. If we leave certain points behind, the disappointment is even greater. In any case, it should serve us as a lesson and change into a healthy partial setback".
The 1-1 on Sunday stopped Juventus from winning sole leadership, a role which is occupied by Sampdoria:
"Like every year, the championship at the beginning of the championship can bring surprises, with the team that nobody would have imagined managing to occupy certain positions. I think, however, that at the end it will be like in the past: with the passage of time certain values will become more evident".
Attention moves to the next match, the Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich: "It is a match for fearless hearts, for players who must not have any fear or uncertainties. These are the matches for which it is worth it being a footballer, because you are playing against very strong teams in extraordinary contexts".
"On paper, at the beginning of the Champions League, Bayern were our number one rival in the group. Even seeing the results of the first match day, I think it will be with them and with Bordeaux that we will fight to the very end for the first place in the group".
The last thought is dedicated to Pavel Nedved, who today visited his former team mates in Vinovo:
"We were happy to see him. He stopped playing four months ago and did not put on one ounce of weight. In fact I think he lost weight. This says a lot about the champion he was and will always be. I was lucky to be able to play with him".

Sissoko And Tiago With The Group

With the passing of days, all the puzzle pieces of the bianconeri are falling into place. After the recovery of Diego and Del Piero, both on the field against Bologna, the comeback of Momo Sissoko and Tiago is also near.
The Mali player, who in the past few weeks had a specialized personal re-insertion programme, got back to working with his team mates, just like the Portuguese who has now recovered from the muscle problem suffered during the match against Bordeaux.
Both players took part in the complete session with the group who was busy with a warm-up followed by shooting exercises and a mini-match on a reduced field.
The only player to have worked separately from the group was Fabio Cannavaro, while Gigi Buffon, Claudio Marchisio and Hasan Salihamidzic stayed in the gym. The players who took part in the match against Bologna on Sunday afternoon had an unwinding session.

Pavel Nedved Visits The Team In Vinovo

There was a pleasant surprise at the Juventus Center in Vinovo this morning. The Czech Fury visited his former team mates and got to know the new signings.
The day after the match against Bologna and on the eve of the departure for Munich, the bianconeri had a very welcome visit. Pavel Nedved visited Vinovo.
The Czech champion, who on the 31st of May played his last match, returned to the Juventus Centre, the fields were he trained in the last 3 seasons, for one morning. It was an occasion to meet once again with many friends and to wish the best of luck to his former team mates in view of the match against Bayern.

Marchisio: "These Are The Matches We Must Win"

Claudio Marchisio is confirming himself to be one of the best midfielders in Italy. The young bianconero had another good match and yet after the final result can’t help feeling angry and worried:
"It is a pity. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind because these chances will not repeat themselves very often during the year. These are the matches which we cannot mistake because otherwise it will end up being like last year losing matches against the smaller teams".
"Our mistake at the end of the match must not repeat itself. We are playing many matches and we are a bit tired especially playing in the afternoon. We should have scored the second in the beginning of the second half".
It is the defensive phase that worries Marchisio most: "because we are conceding a bit too much and Gigi is sometimes forced to make great saves. Bologna is very capable of attacking and with players like Di Vaio they are very dangerous. In order to fight for the scudetto we must be determined even if we play every three days".
The way the goal was scored has a sense of deja-vu: "We were taken by surprise from a set-piece and this sort of distraction is becoming our biggest mistake. These are the matches we must win because otherwise we cannot win the scudetto. It is useless to beat Milan or Inter and then lose points against this type of teams. We must improve very much under this aspect and must not fall into last year’s trap".

Trezeguet: "We Managed The Match Well. It’s A Pity We Did Not Win"

This time, the “Trezeguet zone” did not bring luck. In the dying minutes of the match, it was Juventus who conceded a goal, a fatal one which denied them the victory in the championship which would have made them sole leaders of the table. The bianconeri had to make do with a point against Bologna, certainly not what was expected on the eve.
Amongst the positive aspects is the goal by David Trezeguet who is getting back to his striking standards. At the end of the match, the Frenchman commented like this:
"We played a good match, managing the result well. Unfortunately at the end they scored this goal which stopped us from winning. Perhaps it was our mistake, but Bologna deserved the draw. We must look ahead and think of Wednesday’s match against Bayern and then of the one on Sunday against Palermo".

Felipe Melo: "We Are A Great Team And I Am Sure We Can Do Better"

At the end of the match, Felipe Melo is angry and rather disappointed: "I am very angry like the whole team because these two points we missed are very important. Juve is a great team that wants to win the scudetto and you can’t lose two points like this. We lost our concentration for an instant and we were punished. We have to make up in the coming matches".
The team might have been tired after the match played away to Genoa on Thursday: "I personally would want to play every time. We played a great match against Genoa and made a mistake today. We are humans and we make mistakes. We are a great team and I am sure we can do better".
So, what went wrong?: "I think that the team did well in the first half. In the second half we had a number of chances. It is not that we played badly at the end of the match but we made a mistake and they scored. However, I am convinced that this team, my team, can do better and will try to do better immediately against Bayern Munich".
Probably Juventus should have scored a second when they could: "I think that if we win 1-0 suffering it is still good. Today we were doing sufficiently well to win this match and we lost these two points but these are things that happen. It happened once and must not be repeated because we are a team which wants to win the scudetto".

Ferrara: "We Took The Draw Badly"

If after the match against Genoa, Ferrara was happy with the performance following the draw against Bologna it is hard for the coach to hide a certain degree of disappointment:
"I think that Bologna deserved the draw because they created a number of difficulties for us but even we had the opportunity of scoring a second. It is not a good result and we weren’t clever because we should have managed to bring the three points home".
"We should have tried to make the opponents run , hitting back. This we did not manage to do and we gave them the chance to attack. We conceded a bit too much on inactive balls and this should never happen".
The draw was not well received: "We took the draw badly. It bothers us because it was our intention to win even though it does not change much in the table. However, I think that in the team we have players who are capable of dealing with victories and even such false steps".
"This is important since on Wednesday we have a very difficult match. Bayern lost this weekend and so did Chelsea and this might mean that the Champions League does have a certain effect".

On the 39th minute there is a free-kick for Bologna following what seems to have been a dive by Viana: ball into the area but cleared by Chiellini. Five minutes later, a good Legrottaglie shot from outside the area goes inches high over the bar.
The last episode of the first half comes on the 45th minute: Bologna score but the flag was up for off-side and so the result remains 1-0 for Juve, upon entering the dressing rooms.
The second half of the match sees Bologna left to take most of the initiative. On the 2nd minute, there is a corner for Juve: Camoranesi crosses to Amauri who from a very difficult position heads high. Six minutes later, Chiellini clears the Juventus area after a ball is put into the area.

Two minutes later, Di Vaio goes past Buffon and Chiellini saves from the line. Juventus are leaving too much of the initiative to Bologna. On the 21st minute Caceres came on for an excellent Zebina.
On the 27th minute, Buffon saves greatly on Tedesco and then Adailton from the re-bound shoots high over the bar and one minute later, a Giovinco attempt goes slightly wide. The 31st minute sees Amauri being fouled upon entering the area but the referee signals to play on.

On the 36th minute Camoranesi shoots high from outside the area after winning a great ball. One minute later, Amauri is fouled on the attack but the referee strangely signals to play on. On the 38th minute, Buffon with a brilliant save denies Bologna the equalizer.
It is the 39th minute when Del Piero makes his 400th apperance in the Serie A as he comes on for Amauri. The captain makes his seasonal debut following the injury suffered during pre-season.
On the 40th minute, a bad foul on Marchisio could have cost more then a yellow card to Raggi. One minute later, the ball is put into the area from the free-kick, Camoranesi heads and the ball hits the post. Bad luck indeed! One minute later, there is a great counter-attack by Del Piero who passes to Giovinco who shoots but sees a defender blocking.
The 43rd minute sees a corner for Juve after a good move by Caceres: the ball reaches Camoranesi who heads slightly wide. Two minutes later, there is a corner for Juve: Giovinco puts the ball into the area but it is won by the defence. Juve regain the ball and Marchisio's shot is blocked by the defence.

The final whistle sees Juventus leave the Olimpico rather disappointed especially since the bianconeri saw the victory escape them during stoppage time.

Ferrara: "We Are Angry And That’s A Good Sign"

From one rossoblu team to another. Juventus is ready for Sunday’s match against Bologna, a few days after the Thursday match against Genoa. The match at the Ferraris, seeing the result and a few key incidents, could influence the match against the emiliani.
Ciro Ferrara and all the bianconeri have found it hard to digest the draw, which came at the end of really well-played match:
"The boys were very angry after the match and I think this is a good sign – commented the coach during the press conference. Without thinking of the mistakes, we all knew that we could have won. The anger with regards to the result must be changed into positive energy for tomorrow. In Genova, we played our best match en our objective is to repeat that performance in every match".
Less then 3 days have passed and it is time to get back on the field. The fixtures do not allow for any rest and this will be the same up to Christmas. This is why, even in view of the Champions Legaue match on Wednesday in Munich. Ferrara will have to make a few choices. The recovery of Del Piero and Diego, is from such a point of view, an excellent bit of news.
"I know how important the match is and for this reason I want 11 players who can guarantee the best result. I already have in mind the formation to adopt but not yet who will play. I will think it over up to the very end and will decide after having spoken to the lads, especially Del Piero and Diego. Surely I will change a few things from Thursday but there will not be so many changes. I have to rest some, like in the case of Grosso, whom I didn’t call-up because he has always played since he joined".
Bologna, who have been regenerated by the victory on Wednesday against Livorno, are expected at the Olimpico. The emiliani are on the eve of a historical event, the club’s centenary, and they will want to celebrate as best they can. Attention must therefore be paid to the rossoblu, especially in the attack which features two former team mates of Ferrara:
"I very difficult match awaits us. Bologna will come here to defend itself and therefore will close the spaces and try to act on the counter-attack with Zalayeta and Di Vaio. They are two very dangerous players and we know both very well and they play well together. This is why we have to be perfect in the defence".
"In any case, we want to win, even because a victory would be the best way to prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League match. If we had to immediately start thinking of Bayern, we would be making a very serious mistake".

Bologna in Turin with 20 Players. Papadopulo: "Juve Is A Sacred Monster"

Gimenes, Moras, Marazzina, Bombardini and Mutarelli the latter scorer of the Bologna goal in the last match against the bianconeri – 4-1 for Juventus) are unavailable. Twenty rossoblu players will visit Turin.
Goalkeepers: Colombo, Viviano;
Defenders: Bassoli, Britos, Lanna, Portanova, Raggi, Santos, Zenoni;
Midfielders: Casarini, Guana, Mingazzini, Mudingayi, Tedesco, Valiani, Vigiani;
Attackers: Adailton, Di Vaio, Osvaldo, Zalayeta.
Giuseppe Papadopulo is ready for the second difficult away match after the one played a week ago against Milan:
"We will be playing against another sacred monster of Italian football. It is one of the most difficult matches and Juventus deserves the position in the table which it is occupying. We have got back on the track we had interrupted with the match against Chievo and now we will emerge ourselves totally in our match against one of the best teams of the championship".

On Sunday There’s The Match Against Bologna: Juve Immediately At Work

The team had just a few hours of rest after the match against Genoa before getting back to the field to prepare the next championship match against Bologna on schedule for Sunday at 15:00hrs at the Turin Olimpico.
The players who played at the Marassi had an unwinding session. Claudio Marchisio who had a great and important performance against the rossoblu, was forced to leave the field in the second half. The problem was however only due to cramps and therefore the midfielder trained normally in the gym together with Amauri and Iaquinta. Tiago, Momo Sissoko and Cannavaro worked separately on their recovery programme.
The rest of the team was busy with a series of exercises aimed at improving the circulation and ball possesion. Diego and Del Piero trained normally with the group. On Saturday morning the team will have their second and last training session for Ferrara to prepare the match against the rossoblu. The coach, at the end of the session will address the usual press conference which will be aired as always live and exclusively on Juventus Channel.

Buffon: "I Think We Played An Important Match"

Buffon is in an excellent condition and there is no doubt about this. In the match against Genoa he was not that busy notwithstanding the two goals conceded.
"I think we played an important match against a team who at home gives a hard time to everybody creating a number of chances of score. Tonight apart from the 2 goals they had a shot by Sculli and so I think we played a good match".
The two goals disallowed: "I think that when a referee makes a mistake by a few inches it is acceptable and nobody should cry scandal and this should be everybody’s attitude".
Buffon however, did not really have much to do: "The one on Sculli was the only real save I was forced to make. It was strong and angled and so very difficult. I think the two goals were impossible to save".
How did the tactical variation effect the team?: "I don’t know if it was tactical variation or our approach to the match but I think we had a good match and responded well. What I liked most is that we did not give much to Genoa. This is why i am sorry we didn’t win".
So what was the negative part?: "I think that in such situations it is difficult to blame a department. The goals came from two crosses and when a defender and a striker jump up together they have equal chances of hitting the ball".

Trezeguet: "A Great Sign Of Maturity"

Trezeguet is coming back. A goal in the last minute of the match against Lazio and a winning header in the dying seconds of the match allowing the bianconeri to equalize in Genova, at the end of the match which Juventus deserved to win.
The Frenchman took advantage as best he could of the chance given to him by Ferrara, confirming yet again the strength of the Juventus attack.
"We are four strikers and all are strong. Iaquinta is an extraordinary player, Amauri is doing his best during the week and soon he will start to score and soon also Del Piero will be back. I am continuing to train with commitment, trying to take advantage of all the occasions that I am given".
"Tonight’s was a just draw against an excellent team. We played a great match showing great maturity even though we did not manage to win".
Juventus.com
Iaquinta: "Today We Played Using A Different Method And I Had More Space To Move"

Notwithstanding the goal scored and another unjustly disallowed Vincenzo Iaquinta is not entirely happy with the result:
"Today we played using a different method and I had more space to move. I am happy with the perormance but also for all the team because I think we played a great match and deserved more. The goal came from a beautiful bit of action. Today the coach changed scheme keeping me a bit wider on the flank and we did well".
Iaquinta also missed a good chance when he hesitated in the crucial moment: "I thought I heard the referee’s whistle and lost the moment. I think I scored another goal which was regular and I am sorry about this".

Marchisio: "We Won An Important Point Against A Difficult Team"

Against Gasperini’s team, a person who like him started off in the Juventus youth sector, Claudio Marchisio gave yet another super performance. Great quality and a series of moves which are to say the least impressive, but even great quantity when it came to running and which was only stopped by a strain which forced him to leave the field before the end of the match.
Even Marcello Lippi, present on the stands can be satisfied. The Italy coach had an important role in the development of the youngster:
"The call-up convinced me more of my abilities. Now I feel more secure and this is also thanks to the team and the faith shown in me by the coach. The action leading to Iaquinta’s goal? I saw Camoranesi in the centre and I crossed, thinking he would shoot. Today I am sorry we didn’t win because that is why we came here. We played a great match against a difficult team".

Melo: "I Think Juventus Played Well And Deserved The Victory"

"I think Juventus played well and deserved the victory. We dropped two important points". These were the words of Felipe Melo at the end of the match at the Marassi. The midfielder went on to say:
"Today the whole team deserves the compliments as we played a great match and showed that this season Juventus can do great things. I don’t like speaking of the referee but Iaquinta’s goal to me was not off-side".
"We played well, left two points behind but showed we are great. A big well done goes to our coach who trained us really well. I am satisfied for what we did and I think I can do even better".

Legrottaglie: "I Think The Performance Was Good"

Nicola Legrottaglie seems satisfied with the performance by Juve notwithstanding the draw: "I think the performance was good especially since we never played in this manner. For the first time I think Genoa was made to suffer and this means that we are doing well".
"Whoever saw the match will realize we are a great team. If we manage to beat the small teams and play in this manner against the bigger ones I think we will manage to bring home a great success.I think that the defence played well today".
"When we are compact and manage to play high it can be an added strength, permitting us to be closer to the ball handler and suffer less. Today Genoa never really shot at goal and yet they scored twice and this is what makes me angry".
Amauri is finding it hard to score: "It is ok for a player not to score if he helps others do so and I think that Amauri is playing really well".

Ferrara: "I Am Disappointed With The Draw But Happy With The Performance"

A joke by destiny: Ciro Ferrara stopped at 6 consecutive victories as a coach and 4 this season at the end of the best match so far. The Juventus seen at the Ferraris was really convincing and would have deserved more then a point from the match.
At the end of the match, the Juventus coach did not manage to rejoice, especially due to the key episode of the match, the goal unjustly disallowed for Iaquinta:
"I am also sorry because immediately after we conceded a goal. These episodes can change the outcome of a match, and at least we managed to draw at the end. In any case I am very satisfied by the performance and we deserved to win. The result convinces me that the route undertaken is the right one".

(Genoa - Juventus 2-2) Juve Back On Top As They Draw At The Marassi

Ferrara goes against the expectations on the eve of the match and fields a 4-3-3 formation with Camoranesi in attack with Iaquinta and Amauri.
Juventus have a good start and on the 2nd minute Amauri tries a cross but the ball goes out. Three minutes later, a Sculli cross is deviated into corner. From the corner the ball is put into the area but cleared by the defence.
Juve rejoice on the 6th minute: a great through ball by Camoranesi reaches Iaquinta who shoots from outside the area to beat Amelia for the opener – 1-0. One minute later, Camoranesi anticpates Sculli in the area. Genoa are nonetheless very active. On the 8th minute Iaquinta is stopped for a foul in attack before shooting.
On the 10th minute, Amauri shoots straight into the hands of the keeper and one minute later Grosso clears the area from a dangerous Genoa iniative. On the 13th minute there is a free-kick for Juve: Grosso puts the ball into the area but Amauri heads high. Six minutes later, Felipe Melo frees the Juventus area of what could have been a dangerous initiative.
The 21st minute sees a corner for Juve: foul in attack by Marchisio. Three minutes later, Amauri stopped for a foul upon entering the area after a good run. Juventus tend to fall back a little too much leaving the initiative to the rossoblu in this phase of the match. On the 24th minute Milanetto shoots wide fro outside the area.
On the 27th minute, Mesto, perhaps Genoa’s best man on the field, tries an overhead kick but does not hit the ball. Three minutes later there is a free-kick for Juve: Amauri heads inches wide after receiving from Grosso. It is however Genoa who lift their hands into the air as on the 31st minute Mesto equalizes by heading in anticpation over Grosso:1-1.
Juventus react and on the 32nd minute Iaquinta shoots slightly wide from outside the area. Two minutes later, Amauri enters the area but loses possession as he is closed by the defence. On the 35th minute Amauri enters the area and passes to Camoranesi whose shot is deviated into corner.
The 36th minute sees a free-kick for Juve from 32 metres: Camoranesi puts it into the area but Amelia waves the ball away. Two minutes later Buffon is forced to leave the goal to save on Floccari. The last opportunity of the first half sees Marchisio with a beautiful move in the area but slips in the best part. The first half ends 1-1.
The 2nd minute sees Grygera taking a calculated risk as he passes back to Buffon. One minute later, there is a corner for Juve: Grosso puts the ball into the area. The Genoa defence clears a first time and then Marchisio's shot is blocked.
On the 4th minute there was a cdcorner for Juve: ball into the area by Grosso but the defence clears. Two minutes later, Buffon grabs the ball as it is put into the area by Crespo. On the 7th minute Marchshio manages to dribble past a defender and enter the area but his shot is saved by Amelia.
The 8th minute sees Iaquinta who does not manage to shoot from an inviting position probably thinking he was off-side. Two minutes later there is a corner for Juve: Grosso puts the ball into the area, Legrottaglie heads high. On the 12th minute Juve benefit from a free-kick from the left side: Grosso's cross goes straight into the hands of the keeper.
On the 18th minute there is a corner for Juve: Grosso puts the ball into the area and Camoranesi's header goes inches high. One minute later Buffon saves well on a Genoa corner. On the 21st minute great play by Marchisio who runs for a good 50 metres before attempting a pass to Iaquinta who is anticipated.
The 22nd minute sees a corner for Juve: ball reaches Melo outside the area who shoots wide. Three minutes later, Buffon saves brilliantly waving the ball over the bar after a Sculli cracker from outside the area. The Genoa corner is cleared by the defence.
Juve have a lot to protest about on the 29th minute: free-kick for Juve from 29 metres: Iaquinta heads the ball into the net but the referee disallows for an inexistent off-side. Seconds later, with the bianconeri still cursing their luck, ball into the Juve area and Crespo heads home for the 2-1!
On the half hour Giovinco comes on for Marchisio. Four minutes later, a Chiellini shot from outside the area goes wide. On the 36th minute, Trezeguet comes on for Amauri. Three minutes later another injustice by the referee: Juve equalize with Chiellini but the referee once again disallows for another inexistent off-side.
Juventus however finally win one back as on the 40th minute there is a free-kick for Juve from 30 metres: Ball into the area and Trezeguet heads home for the 2-2. On the 47th minute there is a good attempt by Juve as Giovinco does not mange to shoot at goal.
The match ends in a 2-2 draw with Juventus deserving much more but who manage to retain the leadership of the table, now jointly with Inter.

All About Genoa-Juventus

Tonight the 5th match day continues. Juventus will be playing at the Ferraris against Genoa. Juventus.com brings you all the information necessary to follow the match. It is the 6th time that Juventus will be playing in the Liguria capital during the month of September, a positive month for the bianconeri who have never lost in previous matches: two victories and three draws.
GENOA AT HOME AND JUVE AWAY
In the start of this championship, Genoa at home and Juventus away have always won the full points. The statistical data in the four matches (Genoa-Roma 3-1, Genoa-Napoli 4-1, Roma-Juventus 1-3 e Lazio-Juventus 0-2)may be useful to try and guess the possible dynamics of the match.
A situation of maximum equilibrium is expected on the following matches: balls played, successful passes, the centre of action, pressing (both formations do this in a very high position), play in the attacking area on the flanks and long crosses, change of play, the percentage of successful dribbling, acceleration, the number of balls played in the opponent’s area and the slow pace leading up to an attempt.
In favour of the rossoblu are the number of balls won, the volume of actions maneuvered from the back and the scoring capability. Juventus, on their side, have the number of fast passes and play that creates a superior number. A clear indication of this is the way our midfield has performed well in the construction of maneuvers during the two away matches in Rome. The number of re-building the attack is impressive (31 in two matches) as is the number of successful long balls (14 against 3).
THE MOST FAITHFUL
There are 5 Genoa players who have already played for over 300 minutes in the championship. Goalkeeper Marco Amelia did not miss a single minute and his tally is that of 384. Next on the podium are two midfielders; captain Marco Rossi with 336 and Giandomenico Mesto with 335. Finally come two defenders: Giuseppe Biava with 317 minutes and Greek national Sokratis Papastathopoulos with 308. These numbers show how the turn-over was mostly carried out in the attack with the utilization of 6 elements: Palacio, Sculli, Floccari, Crespo, Figueroa and Palladino.
For Juventus, the most faithful players, who played all the matches without having been substituted are Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini. Over 300 minutes played also for Claudio Marchisio and Amauri.
PREVIOUS MATCHES IN SEPTEMBER
Juventus played against Genoa 5 times at the Marassi during the month of September and the tradition is favourable with two victories and three draws.
The most entertaining match is without doubt that of 1947: the rossoblu lead by 2-1 until 10 minutes from the final whistle, when a penalty scored by Rava and a goal by Boniperti in the dying minutes condemn them to a 3-2 defeat. Even in 1953 Juve won and the protagonist was once again Giampiero Boniperti” the final 3-1 score is thanks to his hat-trick. The President holds the record of historical top-scorer of the encounter with 6 goals in front of the Liguria public.
1956 sees the start of a series of draws. The 1-1 is determined by two goals within four minutes of the first half. Juventus scored the opener thanks to Umberto Colombo with Macor equalizing for the home team. Skipping the 0-0 end result in 1962, we move to the 2-2 achieved 30 years later. It is a very nervous match with one play sent-off for each team (former bianconero Caricola for Genoa and Di Canio for Juve). The bianconeri coached by Trapattoni, scored the opener thanks to Carrera. The situation is turned around by Padovano (a future Juve player) and the Czech giant Skuhravy, before the goal of the definite draw scored by Englishman David Platt.

Ferrara: "Victories Make Us Aware"

"We started with a certain positioning but then we changed often during the match an according to the situation. We must not fossilize ourselves in one formation. At certain levels every team has a philosophy which it works on, but it must also know how to adapt in a different manner on the field".
Ferrara did not give any hints about the line-up which he will field against Genoa, neither did he say he wanted to change tactical approach, but stresses an aspect which he holds very dear. His Juventus must be capable to change during the match, to adapt to different situations and not to give certainties to the opponents especially when they are dangerous ones like the rossoblu:
"We know what the strong points of Genoa are. They have been playing this sort of football for years, with players who know each other by heart and with a continuous change in positions. Sometimes one of the three defenders moves up to the attack putting himself in a condition to shoot at goal and when this happens he is always covered by a team mate. They play well on the flanks, know Gasperini’s schemes by heart and they carry them out showing excellent football high in intensity".
Ferrara knows well what the attitude of his team must be: "I think it is important to be shorter, both in the offensive and the defensive phases. This will allow us to win back the ball more easily and avoid long balls when we are in possession. Long balls are instinctive when you have team mates which are physically strong and perhaps it is the easy solution, especially when the opponents attack you".
"We must be clever enough to move the ball around even when we are under pressure and everybody must move around. We won two difficult away matches against Roma and Lazio but it is not enough. Our victories must pass through other victories, starting from tomorrow".
Ferrara was asked to give an answer to the words spoken by Gasperini during the week by which he declared that a debutant like Ferrara on the Juventus bench is a defeat for the category of coaches:
"I understand he wanted to defend a category, but I want to underline that I am part of it myself. I realize that the fact that I am sitting on the Juventus bench in my first experience can bother certain people. It is nearly natural".
In reality, notwithstanding his little experience, Ferrara is collecting victories and compliments: "I hope I will receive them even at the end of the season. They make me happy and I think even gratify the players who are on the field. I entrust myself in their abilities and their want of victories".
Amongst the champions available to Ferrara, is one in particular who is going through an excellent state of form: Gigi Buffon, who Ferrara himself first played against and then played along with him as a team mate.
"I remember him as an opponent and a team mate and I think he is confirming himself. The career of a great champion is not made up of one good season or a less good one. I don’t know for how many years Gigi has been playing but he has always had a consistent performance. If he exaggerates in dribbling? If he makes those kind of saves he can even afford that".

Morning Of Work At Vinovo With Two Days To Go For Genoa Clash

The team had another morning session in view of the championship match at the Ferraris on Thursday night, valid for the 5th match day of the championship against Gasperini’s Genoa.
Ferrara received good indications from the players who were injured. Felipe Melo and Salihamidzic took part in the complete session with the group. Del Piero e Diego took part in a separate session during the first part of the training programme but participated in all the technique exercises with Dodo Sormani and the other attackers. Tiago, Cannavaro and Sissoko had a personalized programme.
While most of the Serie A teams will be playing tomorrow, Juventus will hold the eve of the match activities on Wednesday, that is all the usual appointments of the day preceding the match.
The training session will be held in the afternoon at 15:00hrs, after which the team will leave for Genova. Ferrara will meet the journalists at 17:15 and the press conference will be transmitted live on Juventus Channel.

Grygera The Griffin hunter

Call him “The Griffin Hunter”. Since he joined the bianconeri, Zdenek Grygera seems to have an open account with Gian Piero Gasperini’s Genoa. In his personal goal scoring records appear three goals. Two of which against the rossoblu.
It all began on the 9th of March 2008. Juventus was playing the 8th match day of the second round at the Ferraris. The defence is in a state of emergency and the Czech national is moved from right fullback to left fullback. The choice proved to be the right one since Zdenek played his best match of the season.
First (on the 25th minute) he scored the opener thanks to a great shot from outside the area, then on the 32nd minute he came up with a great slalom at the edge of the area giving a perfect pass to Trezeguet who scored a second. The match ended 2-0 with Grygera having a great portion of merit.
A few months later, the season and the stadium are different. On the 13th November, Juventus and Genoa are on the field on the usual Thursday sue to a rugby match at the Olimpico that weekend. The rossoblu approach the match on a high but in Turin they suffer a heavy stop. In 26 minutes the bianconeri put the result away and once again this includes the mark of Grygera.
The defender is back as right fullback and it is from this position that he moves uf successfully on the 6th minute: a diagional shot on the run beats Rubinho. From the same flank, 20 minutes later, he comes up with a perfect cross for Amauri who heads for the second goal. At the end the result is that of 4-1 with a goal by Iaquinta and an own-goal in the final minutes by Papastathopoulos.
The positive streak of Juventus against Genoa is interrupted in the return match, At the Marassi, on the 11th April everything goes wrong. Juventus ends the first half one goal behind (2-1) and a man less (Camoranesi sent-off). Grygera still finds a way of leaving his mark. On the 39th minute in collaboration with Pavel Nedved, he allows Iaquinta to score the 2-2 equaliser before the definite 3-2 scored by former Juventus player Palladino.
It is too easy to expect the third goal against the genoani , the classical “non c’è due senza tre” (there is no 2 without 3).
"In the Czech Republic we do not have this proverb – admits Grygera – but I wouldn’t mind continuing this series. In these last few days, everybody is reminding me that Genoa is the team against which I scored the most. I do not know if I will manage to do so this time too, but I will try to if I have the opportunity".
Also strong from his extremely favorable tradition against the rossoblu, Grygera is hoping for a place in the starting line-up. The Czech national was in the starting line-up of the first two matches against Chievo and Roma but missed out due to injury on the matches against Lazio (his substitute Caceres was the man of the match) and Bordeaux and was back against Livorno.
"With the national team against San Marino, I suffered a blow which caused my knee to swell. Now I am better. On Saturday I played the whole match and I am ready".
