Juve knew a win in this match would put them one step closer to gaining a Champion League spot while Milan had to win to keep up with Fiorentina and keep Sampdoria and Udinese at bay. Juve's last game was a undeserved 3-2 loss to Palermo while Milan got back on winning ways with a 3-1 win over Cagliari.
Claudio Ranieri only made two changes to the side that lost to Palermo last weekend with Tiago coming in for Antonino Nocerino and Hasan Salihamidzic for the injured Pavel Nedved. It was the same side that made a successful comeback from two goals down and performed so well in Sicily.
Ranieri stuck with his 4-4-2 formation with Cristian Molinaro and Zdenek Grygera at the fullback positions while Nicola Legrottaglie and Giorgio Chiellini were in the center of defence. Mohamed Sissoko was in the center of midfield with Tiago while Mauro Camoranesi and Salihamidzic were the wingers. The successful Partnership of David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero were Juve's attack force, the duo have scored 31 goals between them.
Once again Juve's first half defensive display was awful. Not only did they once again give up two goals but in the manner the goals were conceded was not something to be proud of. None of the four defenders had a good first half display, with Milan getting behind the defence and creating chances. Once again Grygera had a bad first half by giving the ball away and getting caught out of position especially on Milan's first goal. Milan were doing most of their attacking on the right side, which seemed to be Juve's week side with both Legrottaglie and Grygera finding it difficult with Milan's attackers. Juve's left side of defence didn't have that much pressure from Milan, although they still did look vulnerable.
It was a solid display from Juve's midfielders , once again Sissoko had a great game his work rate and ability to play from box to box is something that the Juve midfield was missing until the arrival of the Mali international. Sissoko center midfield partner Tiago had a good game, he was always looking for the ball and he controlled and calmed down Juve's second half display. Tiago was directing the movement of the ball from the defenders up to the attackers, and played more of a defensive role.
The two goal hero against Milan Salihamidzic didn't have the best of game although he did score twice and was played out of position. He started on the left then he moved to the right as a defensive presents to help out Grygera. He was barely noticeable in the game and didn't do much but he did score twice which is what counts in the end. Camoranesi had a great game, he was given more of a free role moving between the right and the center, he set up Juve's first goal and was running at the Milan defence which caused them problems.
Alessandro Del Piero had a excellent game once again he scored Juve's first goal and and caused Dario Simic all sorts of problems, the Croatian couldn't keep up with him. Ale ran the Juve attack, he has turned back the clock and playing like a kid again hoping to be called up to Euro 2008. On the other hand Trezeguet didn't have the best of games he had one chance at goal but it was saved and put in by Salihamidzic. David didn't get any service once again in this match and its hard for him to play when he can't play to his strengths.
