Claudio Ranieri was forced into making two changes to his side that beat Milan on the weekend, with both Nicola Legrottaglie and Mohamed Sissoko picking up injuries against Milan, Guglielmo Stendardo and Antonino Nocerino took their places. Ranieri also gave a rare start to Raffaele Palladino who took the spot of Pavel Nedved who was on the bench after his injury.
Ranieri stuck will his 4-4-2 formation with Cristian Molinaro and Zdenek Grygera at the fullback positions, Stendardo and Giorgio Chiellini were in the center of defence. Mauro Camoranesi was moved into the center of midfield with the absence of Sissoko to partner Nocerino while Hasan Salihamidzic and Palladino were on the flanks. The injury to Vincenzo Iaquinta in training left Juve short of attacking options and left Ranieri with only two strikers David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero who have scored 32 goals between them.
Unlike their previous two games Juve kept a clean sheet, but this was manly due to the fact that the defence was never put under any real pressure. The four man defence coped well with the few times that pressure was applied by Parma but nothing serious every came from it. The only worrying sign to come from the defensive point of view is the ability of the opponents to get down the wings and get behind them with long balls, this is mainly due to the fact the defence is very bunched up, this is a worrying sign which has cost Juve goals and will need to change next season.
Like the defence the midfield dominated their opponents and never let Parma have time on the ball by constantly closing them down. Camoranesi started the game well and was causing havoc with his new free role as a center midfielder, his midfield partner Nocerino had a quite but solid game. Tiago replaced Camoranesi on 66 minutes and did well he slowed down and controlled the game and also set up Juve's third goal.
A positive which came from the victory over Parma was the performance of Raffaele Palladino he scored a goal and did a lot of tracking back helping out the defence and was always looking for the ball and trying to creative stuff. The downside of his performance is that sometimes he holds on to the ball for to long and tries to do to many fancy tricks which isn't always necessary.
The Juve attackers did what was asked of them to be done, Trezeguet scored a simple tap in goal and Del Piero was looking lively by running at the Parma defence, he also has a few chances to score but they were all from though angles. Once Juve went 2-0 up there weren't really any clear cut chances, but there were some counter attack opportunities but the final ball was missing and they lead to nothing.
Overall:
1st Half:
Juve had a good start to the match with Salihamidzic going close to scoring from an Del Piero free kick, with his diving header just wide.
Cristiano Molinaro then got into a good position and put a good cross into the area but Trezeguet could get it on target and it went over the bar.
Mauro Camoranesi used his quick feet to beat two men then played a ball to Palladino who got a shot off but it didn't have enough power or placement to beat the Parma keeper Bucci.
Juventus then scored the opening goal on 16 minuets Del Piero whipped in a corner which the Parma keeper missed and alowed Camoranesi to get a header on goal which hit the post and the rebound fell to Trezeguet who was left with a simple tap in, Trezeguet was in an offside position but it was a hard call for the officials to make without the aid of a replay.
Juventus then doubbled their lead on the half-hour mark with a great goal from Palladino, he got in fornt of his marker and nodded the ball ahead of himself then blasted in a powerful half volley into the far corner.
Moments later Del Piero had a chance but his shot was wide. Camoranesi then played a great through ball to Grygera who's shoot was blocked by Fernando Couto. From the resulting corner Couto clearly punched Chiellini in the face and should of been awarded a penalty and a red card for Couto but the officials missed it.
2nd Half:
Nocerino had Juve's first attempt on goal of the second half with a long range shoot which the Parma keeper collected at the second attempt.
Del Piero then got pass his opponent and played a one two with Trezeguet which put Ale one on one with the keeper but he put it wide from a tight angel.
Palladino then found some space but blasted his shot wide. He then nodded down a ball for Nedved who also miss his shot at goal but not by much.
Juventus then scored their third goal thanks to a Stefano Morrone own goal. Tiago was looking for Trezeguet but Morrone got in the way and put a looping header past his own keeper.
