Just like last year. The first game against Sampdoria ended 0-0 and, apart from the post hit by Del Piero, there was little in terms of excitement. This was mostly due to Mazzarri's team's conduct.
Here is what Ranieri had to say after the game: "It wasn't a great match to watch, but it was vibrant and hard-fought. I'd say it was an English-style match, with Sampdoria trying mostly from stopped play situations"."We tried to increase the pace but we were able to do so only a few times and one of those times we hit the post. I liked the team; they defended well on Cassano and never let the midfielders surprise them when they came forward".
"Near the end I put Iaquinta on as I was hoping to get some crosses in for his headers. I was going to put on Giovinco too, but I was in good hands with Camoranesi".
