A Good Day For Juve Internationals
With the Juventus infirmary full, the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday only saw four Juventus players on the field for their respective countries. With the exception of goalkeeper Alex Manninger however the Juve internationals can call the day a satisfactory one. On the other front Paolo De Ceglie was the only “bianconero” in Italy’s Under 21 side in a match valid for the European cup qualifiers.
In the match between Italy and Montenegro Juventus were represented by the sole Chiellini due to the injuries of players such as Buffon, Camoranesi, Legrottaglie and Iaquinta and the missed call-up of Del Piero. The match which saw Italy dominate during most of the time with Montenegro hitting back aggressively at moments, ended in an overall well-deserved 2-1 win for the “azzurri”.
Zdenek Grygera’s Czech Republic had a narrow 1-0 win over Slovenia in what was to be a “do or die” bout following two previous unimpressive performances ending in a draw against Northern Ireland and a defeat against Poland.
Dario Knezevic has the most celebrate about after his Croatia beat Andorra by an easy 4-0, in an attempt to keep pace with Fabio Capello’s England, the only side together with Spain to have full points after four matches.
Paolo De Ceglie will be pleased that Italy’s Under 21 side managed to prove themselves in Tel Aviv by winning 3-1 against Israel after a goal-less draw in Italy which had the “azzurrini” worry about a possible elimination from the finals.
The only Juventus international who will be more then willing to forget this day is goalkeeper Alex Manninger who’s Austria succumbed to Serbia by 3 goals to 1, meaning that the Austrian team is now joint 3rd with France with the latter having a game in hand.
