Legrottaglie And Marchisio, Objective Europe
Legrottaglie and Marchisio, or rather the thinking brains behind the Juventus play. The first, elegant as very few others are, the defensive director of Ranieri’s formation, the person who puts the defence in order, who calls for off-side, who, together with Giorgio Chiellini forms one of the most reliable couples in the championship.
The second is the engine of the midfield: young but with great expertise, having played for Juventus for the last 14 years, he is the man to whom one must pass the ball knowing for sure it will not be lost. Both have had a great year. For Nicola, it was so great that he finds it hard to identify one particular moment to remember:
"There isn’t a particular episode. I think my whole season was positive because playing for Juventus at this level, I think was my greatest emotion". Claudio on the other hand has a precise moment in mind: "Surely my confirmation and return to Turin to continue my adventure with Juventus was the most beautiful moment".
The satisfaction for what Juventus managed to achieve in 2008 is a common factor: "We managed to reach great levels coming from a year in the Serie B and putting ourselves back at the highest levels of the Serie A", points out the Duke. "The quality of Juventus is having been capable of never giving up, in all matches, especially against the big teams and the third place achieved last year was a great result" says Claudio.
The objective for the new year has a European horizon: "I expect even more out of this year – explains Legrottaglie – and most of all to find Juventus in Rome on the 27th of May". "We want to go as far as possible in the championship, Champions League and Coppa Italia", echoes Marchisio.
Just like the two personalities the events which struck them mostly in 2008 are different:
"The collapse of the stock markets will surely leave its mark for many years to come – underlines Nicola – On a personal level what impressed me positively is having seen so many people grow spiritually. This has left me with a full heart".
"There was that terrible accident in Spain – remembers Claudio – I am afraid of flying and I was very deeply struck by the lack of attention in aeroplane maintenance".
