Cobolli: "I’d Like To Win The Champions League"
Episode number one and a number one guest. For the first appointment of 2009 Filo Diretto hosted nobody less then Giovanni Cobolli Gigli himself. The Juventus president spent the afternoon in the studios of Juventus Channel answering the many curiosities of the Juventus fans.
Many themes were treated. From the performances of the team to the club’s results up to the dreams of Cobolli as president and those as Cobolli as fan. One above all: «I would really like to go to Rome and play the final of the Champions League and this is also what our champions want».
The most important moments during his presidency. "There were many in these two and a half years. I still remember the day I entered the board of directors, the day when Capello told me that he would be leaving and also the whole phase of the sports judgement".
"I also remember great moments like the return to the Serie A, the qualification to the Champions League and the victory against Real Madrid in Turin. But the memory which I shall carry with me forever is the demise of Alessio and Riccardo".
The dream. "Like many Juventus supporters I would like to go to Rome for the Champions League final. This is something even our champions want. Now we have to play this double encounter against Chelsea and I am sure that our boys will do well because they are always stimulated by great matches".
Cobolli Gigli fan and president. "As a supporter I begin to think of the matches a day before, but once we play them I do not manage to sleep. As president I try to show another side and honour the chair I am seated on everyday".
Compliments to the board of directors. "I thank the fans for their compliments. I will inform Blanc too who is to me like a younger brother. The work we try to do is hard since we succeeded directors who brought many football victories".
The open letter. "Last year we decided to write it after the match against Reggina. If I’d re-write it? Sure. We thought it was right to show what we felt after what happened and I think we were never excessive but clear".
No transfers. "I cannot but confirm what Blanc said a few days ago. We will not be buying anybody in January unless something extraordinary comes up. The squad is complete as it is".
Marchisio, the future. "It is of great satisfaction for us to be able to count on a player like Claudio. He is a youth with great potential to improve further. I think one day he can become the new Boniperti".
Chiellini, the next captain. "Here there are many players who would deserve to wear the band but in respect to this the one who I think can inherit from Del Piero is Giorgio Chiellini".
Clever Ranieri. "I am very satisfied with our coach and I thank him. I can still see the recent match against Milan. We played against a great opponent full of extraordinary players and we showed everyone that we are a team that plays great football".
Valuable youths. "We believe very much in our nursery that is managed by a great Juventus man Ciro Ferrara and his collaborators. We inherited great talents from the last board of directors but we were the ones to hold tight to them, built on their value and launched them in the first team".
Towards the first three years. "In June our mandate as board of directors will expire. I tend to concentrate on short-term objectives and therefore I am not yet thinking of that expiry. I will however try to get there having collected the greatest number of satisfactions possible".
Serie A Juventus supporters. "I would like to clarify once more the controversy which was created a few months ago. After a debate with Torino president Urbano Cairo I had said that Serie A supporters are those who watch matches in the correct manner while those of Serie B and C are those who behave badly. Luckily, most of ours are Serie A supporters. The atmosphere lived at the Olimpico is splendid and will be even more so in the new stadium".
