Getting Back On Track. Step 1: Victory Against Cagliari
The defeat against Udinese was somewhat of a setback for Juventus, a sort of lightning in fair weather but Ranieri’s boys are willing to get back on track and in order to do this the first step is emerging as victors from the match at home to Cagliari on Saturday night.
There are no suspended players amongst the bianconeri and Ranieri who is slowly recovering a number of important players will have captain Del Piero back on the field.
The records are very much in favor of Juventus with the bianconeri winning 16 out of the 28 home encounters in the Serie A with the sardi with the latter’s only victory dating back to a good 40 years ago during the 1968/69 season when Riva’s team managed to beat the bianconeri 2-1.
The last Juventus home victory against Cagliari was during the 2005/06 season when the bianconeri obtained a round 4-0 victory thanks to goals by Nedved, 2 by Trezeguet and an own-goal by Vignati.
The match between the two teams in Turin last season ended in a 1-1 draw with the only Juventus goal being scored by Nedved.
In all competitions the two teams met 65 times with 27 Juventus victories, 26 draws and 12 Cagliari victories.
Before the match Claudio Marchisio will be presented with an award by Juventus Members after having been voted the best player of last month. The award is the cherry on the cake for the young midfielder who in the last week has scored his first goal in the Serie A and signed a new contract with Juventus which will bind him to the black and white club up to 2014.
