Gigi Buffon Best Goalkeeper Ever
That which by many is considered to be a common thought has now been made official: Gigi Buffon is the best goalkeeper ever in the history of football!
This was announced by the International Federation for Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) which came up with a special table showing the 50 best goalkeepers since 1987.
Buffon precedes Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and Spaniard Iker Casillas.. Other illustrious representatives of this role in the top ten are: Kahn, Chilavert, Zenga and another ex-Juventus player Van Der Sar.
An award which reflects Gigi’s consistency: always at the top of the performance tables for the last ten years. The award was announced on the day when another might be given to the number one, that is the Football Oscar for best goalkeeper of the last championship.
Buffon, however will not be present at the gala evening which will take place tonight in Milan since he is still suffering from the fever which made him miss Sunday’s away match in Rome.
Gigi has therefore taken advantage of Juventus.com to comment about the IFFHS award:
"It cannot but be of great satisfaction to me, especially since I am only 30 years old and still totally active. This motivates me even more to confirm this ranking in the next 5 or 6 years. Obviously, an award like this is not won alone. For this reason I must thank all my team-mates who helped me become what I am".
