Catania In Search Of Points
After a great start to the championship, January saw Catania move from European aspirations – the UEFA zone was not far – to the middle of the table without any particular disheartening but also without any excessive ambitions.
The Sicilians only won 1 out of the last 10 championship matches: 3-2 against Roma on the 21st of December. The remaining results consisted of 2 draws (both 1-1) and 7 defeats. It is since October 19th that the Sicilian team has finished a match with a clean sheet: they conceded 26 goals in the 16 matches played since.
The last goal scored dates back to the draw against Genoa on the 25th of January. Catania haven’t scored a goal in the last 202 minutes played since and has suffered two consecutive defeats against Inter and Atalanta.
On Sunday, at the Massimino, Zenga will probably have to do without Ledesma who worked separately from the group due to strain. Potenza, who was transferred from Genoa in the recent transfer market might be in the starting line-up.
Just like against Inter, playing at home and in desperate search of points Zenga might opt for three attackers with Mascara behind the two strikers Paolucci and Morimoto.
In the last three matches with the Catania it has always been a draw: the recurring result between Catania and Juventus is that of 1-1.
The last Catania victory against Juventus dates back 45 years and the end result that day was 3-1. Since then the statistics show 5 draws and 7 Juventus victories.
