Ranieri: "We Had Become Too Generous"
A visibly satisfied Ranieri spoke during the usual interview at the end of the match. The team’s response was great and got back to being what it was before
"because – declared Ranieri – we were becoming too generous, like for example against Cagliari and we had lost our balance. In Catania I found the team I wanted, playing a great match even though we were one player short for 80 minutes against a team that never gave up".
Therefore that is not tired as it has been described. "Let us say we are not at the level we had in November and December – confirmed Ranieri – but after all you cannot always be at 100%. Analyzing the two previous defeats, against Udinese we didn’t play, against Cagliari we were too generous but the team is physically well, otherwise we would not have managed to play for 120 minutes on Wednesday and 80 minutes with one man less today".
Let us speak of the protagonists, Ranieri has appraisals to make: "To Poulsen, who already played well against Napoli and who proved to be important for us. For Tiago, who played a great match. Today, not withstanding the injuries I had proof that I have 4 midfielders which I can count on".
"For Amauri, who deserves to have a monument erected for the way in which he played keeping the match alive. He isn’t scoring? He will, he is one with a double number at the end of the season» Finally a comment on Iaquinta: I preferred him because Trezeguet has just come back just like Amauri because the captain had played 2 great matches. We are entering a difficult cycle and we need everybody. The send-off? It was right but he could have avoided receiving the first yellow card for having removed the shirt".
