Viareggio Cup: Maddaloni: "Only One Step More"
The Primavera have a hand of 20 and are going for Black Jack! At the end of an enthusiastic march which began with the match against Maccabi Haifa and arrived up to the semi-final against Torino, Maddaloni’s team won itself a place in the final of the 61st edition of the Viareggio Cup and now is patiently awaiting the match against Sampdoria.
The big moment is close: on Monday 23rd February at 15:00hrs at the “Pini di Viareggio” stadium. The match between the bianconeri and the bluecerchiati will attract the attention of many and not only those interested in the youth sector. The match will not only be followed by the people at the stadium but also by those at home.
The final will be aired live on Rai Sport PiĆ¹ with a special programme dedicated to the event on Juventus Channel. With half an hour of pre-match (starting at 14:30) and a rich post-match programme with interviews from Viareggio and the comments of the protagonists.
With just over 24 hours to go even Massimiliano Maddaloni is looking forward to the event which is twice as important for him. He is in fact the first person from Viareggio to make it to the final and also wants to be the first to lift the trophy at home. The team showed progress one match after another and this is already a good reason for satisfaction:
"I cannot ask for more from my boys or rather one last thing – the victory against Sampdoria. In thes4elast few days the team has become more compact and has understood more the importance of the saying “you either win as a team or you die alone”. They all responded with maximum dedication".
The team will be opposed by Sampdoria, the current Italian champions and holders of the Coppa Italia but Juventus will be in search of another confirmation of quality and why not perhaps a changing of hands.
"This tournament is showing how competitive our team is – continued the coach – We are the leaders of out group in the championship, semi-finalists in the Coppa Italia and now finalists here in Viareggio".
The group is therefore asked for a last effort. A few hours yet in order to re-charge the batteries and work on the recovery of some injured players such as Rossi, Ekdal and Marrone. Unfortunately the tournament seems to be over for Yago following the injury suffered in the semi-final against Torino.
The hope exists and it has even grown stronger with the passing of time: "Victories help – concluded Maddaloni – they give moral support and help increase self-confidence. We know we will be meeting a great opponent like Sampdoria. We will definitely play to win conscious of our strength. We just need to make one more step and we want to make it!".
