In view of the match in Turin on the 10th of March, Chelsea could recover two important players: Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien. The two players were back on the field with the Chelsea reserves in the match against Aston Villa.
The Portuguese defender who had been suffering from muscular problems for a number of weeks played for an hour. Essien, who had been out since September for an injury to the cruciate ligaments, played for the whole match, even scoring a goal at the end of the match which the blues lost 4-3.
Hiddink and his assistant Ray Wilkins were present on the stands to verify the condition of the two players. At the end of the match Hiddink said:
"Both Michael and Ricardo are nearly completely recovered. It is a very important piece of news for us because they will provide us with more options both on a tactical level and for a trun-over".
