Iaquinta Goal Keeps Italy At The Top
A goal scored by Vincenzo Iaquinta in the 10th minute kept Italy at the top of Group 8 in what turned out to be a difficult match against Trappatoni’s Ireland. What promised to be an encounter in black and white turned out to be even more so as Vincenzo Iaquinta scored the only goal for the azzurri and played an incredible match in what was a match full of episodes and a real battle for Lippi’s azzurri.
All three bianconeri were once again in the starting line-up and all three proved to be worth of this decision. The match started off on the wrong foot with Pazzini being sent-off as early as the 4th minute of the match. Lippi’s boys reacted, however, and managed to score thanks to the Juventus striker in the 10th minute.
An advantage which they managed to keep up to the dying minutes of the match when Robbie Keane managed to equalise after 90 minutes of great bravery shown by the azzurri. Giorgio Chiellini and Gigi Buffon also had a great match with the goalkeeper performing a great save on the 40th minute of the match.
The draw keeps the points margin from Ireland at two with Italy still at the top of Group 8 with 14 points.
