Ciro And Pesso, Do You Remember Those Penalties?
The book of memories of Juventus remains open. The after the celbration of the anniversary of the 1995 scudetto, it is the turn today of a double triumph.
The first is more recent. Exactly a year and a day after, on the 22nd May 1996, Juventus returned to the throne of Europe. At the Rome Olimpico, the stadium which in less then a week will host the final between Manchester and Barcellona, Lippi’s team beat Ajax after penalties.
An unforgettable experience which, in comparison to the 1995 scudetto, adds another super-bianconero to the list. Ferrara, Rampulla and Del Piero, protagonists of the tricolour triumph, are joined by Gianluca Pessotto. The team manager, who joined Juventus at the beginning of that season left his mark by scoring one of the decisive penalties. The same did Ciro Ferrara, Padovano and Jugovic. Peruzzi was decisive and Ravanelli scored the lead during the regular 90 minutes. This was “goodbye in style” for “Penna Bianca” who played the last match for Juventus just like Vialli, Vierchowood and Paulo Sousa.
Going back to 1977, comes another day of festivities for all the Juventus people. Four days after the victory of the UEFA Cup in Bilbao, which brought the first international trophy to Turin, Trapattoni’s team completed another historical achievement. By winning 2-0 in Genova against Sampdoria (goals by Bettega and Boninsegna), the team reached the incredible quota of 51 points winning the 17th scudetto.
