Ranieri: "We Have To Try To Win Back The Second Place"
The countdown to the end of the season is rolling fast and with the first out of the last three matches to go, Ranieri spoke of Atalanta and the season in general during the press conference.
The match will be played without supporters following the final decision by the Coni High Court on Thursday: "It will be strange to play without supporters because I never experienced this before but I can imagine the difficulty created when playing without the support. At the end of the day we’re sad but we accept it because these are things that should never happen".
"The referee? I think that just like the players referees are used to the supporters. They go down on the field to do well and then when there is a mistake many times it is because they can’t see well. I think therefore that the referee will be tranquil and try to do his best as usual".
The match at the San Siro showed that Juventus are still there with the top teams notwithstanding the negative period which the team went through: "I think the match against Milan was important to help the team realize what we can do. I hope that the next three matches will confirm all we did in the past nine months. There i still everything to play for both in the good and the bad sense".
"We have to be Juventus: determined, reactive and wanting a good result. Every championship has its story. One must take into consideration the good and bad things and then work to improve the bad points. We could have done much better. When one considers that we did not win for a month and a half we obviously could have done better".
"Anyone who is in the world of sports knows that these moments occur. Most of it is related to a mental condition. We are professionals but we are not machines. It is the team together that is more or less in form. It happens during the season but we did not manage to mask it well. It is not that the match in Milan changed the internal atmosphere".
"We were always well. On the outside it is obvious that people live off the result. I immediately said that what really made me sad is losing the Coppa Italia because I wanted it right from the start".
The match against Atalanta on Sunday afternoon must serve as a confirmation of the return to the normal level by Juventus as shown during the match against Milan but most of all the first of three steps in an attempt to win back the second place:
"After these three matches we will return to think in a more balanced manner. If we started off badly and ended well people would just be speaking of the good things. The fact that we started off well and then had a bad patch everybody speaks of the bad patch. It is normal however, to do so".
"Now we will be playing against Atalanta, a compact team. Del Neri teams play restricted to 30 meters. We will have to field will and determination because they have nothing to lose and therefore will be aggressive and will base their play on counter-attack. We have to try to get back the second place and at the same time keep an eye on Fiorentina who are close behind us. It all depends on us".
With regards to an indication of the possible starting line-up Mr. Ranieri preferred to keep things secret: "I will field those players who I think are most in form. There have never been hierarchies with me and you have seen this".
