Juventus legend Gianluca Vialli has made the sensational claim that new boy Diego is as good as Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona hotshot Lionel Messi.
This can only be good news for the Bianconeri faithful, with Pavel Nedved retiring a new star was certainly needed in Turin and from Vialli’s testament they’ve picked up another star.
This is what Vialli said in an interview with Tuttosport: "Diego is worth (the same as) Messi and Ronaldo,
"He is one of the top three best players in the world."
I was fortunate enough to watch Diego quite a bit last season during Werder Bremen’s UEFA Cup run. Although I wouldn’t go as far as Vialli just yet, the Bundesliga is after all perhaps not quite as strong as Serie A, La Liga or the Premier League, I can definitely see plenty of potential in Diego.
At 24.5million euros Diego could indeed be a steal, especially with some of the transfer fees being reported this summer, and should light up the Stadio Olimpico next season. The Old Lady are still in need of a few additions though and another centre-half and striker should be among the top priorities.
I doubt many would disagree that Internazionale will be the favourites to retain the title next season and the bookies pre-season betting odds also reflect this. However, with Diego on board and a few more players with real quality Juve could upset the Serie A betting odds and take the Scudetto.
With AC Milan in disarray and Inter still fighting to keep hold of Ibrahimovic it is Juve who have been the most successful so far in the transfer market of the bigger Italian sides. If Ciro Ferrara can pick up a couple of extra players with real quality Juve should put up a better fight for the title next season.
