Del Piero-Plushenko, A Champions’ Meeting In Pinzolo
The training camp in Pinzolo had a welcomed visit. The team met Evgeni Plushenko, known as the greatest figure skater of all times at the Centro Sportivo Pineta.
The Russian athlete has a passion for football and a number one idol: Alessandro Del Piero. Taking advantage of the summer camp in Pinzolo and the training in the adjacent Palazzo del Ghiaccio he made one of his dreams come true by meeting the Juventus captain.
At the end of the only training session of the day for Ciro Ferrara’s team Plushenko went to the dressing room area and met with Del Piero who was also happy to shake hands with the number one in his discipline.
It was a day to remember for the Russian champion who besides receiving an autographed Juventus jersey with of course the number ten and having juggled with Alex, also spoke to Juventus Channel:
"Football is my second favourite sport together with hockey and I have many friends who are footballers in Russia. I like Del Piero because he is a true genius. I come very often to Italy and after having won a European championship and a gold medal in the 2006 Olympics here, I consider Turin to be my second home".
Evgeni Plushenko was born in Solnechi (Russia) on the 3rd of November 1982 but grew up in St. Petersburg, a city which Juventus visited last season when it played against Zenit in the Champions League.
In his rich trophy cupboard the honours to shine most are the gold medal he won in the winter Olympics held in Turin in 2006 and three world titles. In his career, in the various competitions in which he took part, he won 52 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
He holds the record for the highest score obtained by an athlete: 258.33 in the most important of competitions in his career – the one in Turin. This is another element that brings him close to Del Piero and Juventus.
