The Peaceful Clash Of The Titans
It might be the Peace Cup, a summer tournament, but the clash is definitely between teams of titanic proportions. Juventus and Real Madrid will play in tonight’s semi-final (live on La7 at 22:30hrs and recording on Juventus Channel at 01:30hrs), for access to the tournament’s final. The clash immediately brings to mind the triumphant two legs in last season’s Champions League with the bianconeri, captained by a magnificent Del Piero, winning both of the duels.
As Ciro Ferrara said in his press conference on Thursday, the match is nothing further then a friendly. It is in fact a real test of the present condition of both teams with new signings Diego, Melo and Cannavaro on one side and Ronaldo and Benzema on the other.
The match will surely be a spectacular but Real Madrid will be missing ex-Milan mastermind Kakà. The Brazilian, fresh from the Confederations Cup only joined the team recently and is not yet available as in the case of Casillas, Ramos, Albiol and Arbeloa. Also missing for the meringues will be Diarra, Garay and Van Nistelrooy who are not yet match fit as well as Heinze, Huntelaar and Van Der Vaart who were not called up for technical reasons. Pellegrini has in fact called-up the same 20 players who played against Liga de Quita beating the Ecuadorians 4-2.
