Primavera Ready For A Leap Back Into Football History
To weigh anchor, the Primavera chose a truly historical appointment. One week before the training camp in Chiusa Pesio, the new team of Luciano Bruni will be playing their first friendly.
They will be meeting West Auckland Town, an English club which became world known for being the first to win the title of “world champions”. Exactly a century ago, in 1909, the British team won the first edition of the “Lipton Trophy”, a competeition created by the tea producer carrying the same name to decide the best team from England, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
West Auckland won the first tournament which was played in Turin at the Superga stadium, and repeated the feat two years later (in 1911), in the same city and same stadium beating Juventus by an impressive 6-1. After so many years, the young bianconeri will have the occasion of a partial vengeance against a team which is nowadays very far from the levels of those days and plays in the minor categories.
Now, on the memories of those glorious success, the team will re-live a moment of glory: a tournament in Italy, in the locations where the team wrote its most memorable pages in history by means of a match against Juventus. The event was made possible by the allocation of the football federation which attracted the attention of the international media. Following the team there are three television troupes, including the BBC which will be in Chiusa Pesio on Saturday afternoon to follow the match that will kick-off at 17:00hrs.
The match is a historical one, especially for West Auckland Town. For the Juventus Primavera it will be the first stage of a long trip and for Luciano Bruni the opportunity to make his debut on the bench.
"For us it will be simply a preparatory match – commented Bruni -. We began working hard only a few days ago and it will be useful to extract some indications. There are still a few defects in my team but I am curious to see the boys in action for the first time. Up to now things are going well".
For the new coach, therefore, it will be the opportunity to get an idea of the team while waiting to have the complete team after the return from Spain of Marrone and Immobile.
"I am satisfied with these first few days of work. We worked seriously and this is the most important thing. Even those who were in the senior squad training camp in Pinzolo came back with the right mentality".
The match against the English side will be the first that the Primavera will be playing in Valle Pesio. In the next few days another match is scheduled as well as a triangular tournament against local teams. On the 11th of August they will play the “family match” in Villar Perosa.
