Italy-Holland: So Much Juve, Just Like 4 Years Ago
There is a strong feeling of déjà-vu. This is one of the many points of interest which Italy-Holland to be played on Saturday 14th offers. Four years ago, precisely on the 12th November, Marcello Lippi’s azzurri who were about to become world champions in July, played against the Orange in Amsterdam.
The match ended 3-1 for Italy with goals scored by Gilardino, Camoranesi and Toni and the hope is obviously to repeat the exploit, even though the result has no real significance since the match is a friendly. The déjà-vu sensation would be complete at that point, seeing that even before the actual match kicks-off the team is strong in the presence of Juventus players.
At the time there were five: Abbiati (who joined Juventus to substitute Buffon who was injured during the Trofeo Berlusconi), Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Camoranesi and Del Piero. On Saturday, Lippi will have one bianconero more: Buffon, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Grosso, Legrottaglie and Camoranesi without forgetting Marchisio and Iaquinta who have both recently undergone a meniscus operation.
There is a strong Juventus presence , also in the other international matches on Saturday: Tiago will be playing for Portugal against Bosnia Herzegovina in the World Cup play-offs. Martin Caceres’ Uruguay will also be seeking to qualify when playing against Costarica. The friendly matches will see Poulsen play for Denmark against South Korea and Felipe Melo for Brazil against England.
