Bayern Press Conference: "There Is Only One Result Possible"
The Bayern Munich press conference, organized at the team’s hotel In Turin, had as protagonists two players, Van Bommel and Schweinsteiger, and the coach Van Gaal. The words of all three featured the same words that is, concentration, faith in themselves and one possible result.
This last fact is the real difference between Bayern and Juventus on the eve of the match: if both teams have in common the necessity for high concentration and the victories in the championship which lifted the morale, the difference is in the fact the Juventus can win or draw while the German team has only one possibility to qualify.
"I don’t know if this will condition the attitude of the two teams on the field – stated Van Gaal -. Surely Juventus having won against Inter sees them recovering points in the table and faith in themselves and they have the advantage of having two results in favour. With regards to us, we have great pressure, but in the championship we are coming back. It is true that today I am not totally satisfied of what I’ve done, but if we go through and win a couple of matches in the championship I will start to feel satisfied".
Van Gaal did not want to comment on what could happen on the field, leaving in doubt even the fielding of Van Buyten (problem to an eye), but he stated that "as always I will field the best formation". Finally he concluded speaking of the Italian player in the squad, Luca Toni: "A player must satisfy the expectations of his team. If he is not capable, I will not try to convince him to stay".
Van Bommel stressed that: "the match against Juve is one of the matches which makes being a player worthwhile". Captain Schweinsteiger told the journalists what the team needs to try and beat the bianconeri: "We must play in a compact manner and with great security. Unfrtunately we could have done better in the group but we also had important absences like Ribery (still out) and Robben, but the possibility of qualifying is still there and therefore we must give the maximum".
