Ferrara: "It Is A Real Final For Us"
The match against Bayern Munich is a determinant one and Juventus are more then conscious of this. This is what emerged from the press conference given by Ciro Ferrara at the press conference on the eve.
The match against Inter brought Juventus the three points and a great boost but it also brought a bit of bad news: the injury of Giorgio Chiellini.
"Giorgio towards the end of the match against Inter had a problem and therefore will not be present tomorrow. For us it is an important absence since Giorgio is going through a good period. I have absolute faith in Legrottaglie, however, who after all would still have played tomorrow even if Giorgio was well".
The match is a “do or die” situation both for Juventus and Bayern Munich: "It is clear that we are playing for the qualification to the next round and many other important aspects for the team and the club. It is a real final for us and for them evidently. Both teams will be giving all they have. It is a final and one team will emerge the victor. I think that with the characteristics of our team we cannot even think of playing for a draw and this must never be in the mentality of a great team. We will play to win, tomorrow".
Asked whether the fact that the Germans have a number of strong players, which include a determinant Robben (probably on the field tomorrow), Ferrara answered:
"They have certain characteristics and players which can create difficulties for us but I don’t think that initially they will be so careless. I think that they will try to maintain the right equilibrium, trying to hit us on every opportunity they have".
German teams are known for being fighters in the sense of never saying die and Ferrara wants this mentality to be adopted even by his team:
"This makes us understand even more that Bayern are a very tough team and this does not bother me. They never say die and this is the mentality that we should adopt. Even in the past, sometimes we played more equipped teams then Juventus but we wanted to do well and we managed to do so. Juventus must never lose this characteristic".
"It is true we alternated between excellent matches and less good ones. We however always tried to avoid a defeat and this is part of the improvement of this team. Perhaps what we are missing is one more step to maintain high levels of performance during the championship. A setback is normal, and I went through them, but we must work hard to avoid this as much as possible".
The theme then shifted to schemes and formations and the Juve coach and a question about the adaptability of Camoranesi in the new line-up:
"Camoranesi played in that position even at the start of the season and I don’t think this is a problem. Sometimes even during the pre-season he played behind the strikers and even though he hasn’t paled in such a position many times he can do so. It is however not a foreseen solution up to now".
The match against Inter on Saturday showed great team spirit and a will to win the match which Ferrara would like to be adopted even in the Champions League tie:
"I would like to see that spirit, want, tension and determination again. We must try not to leave the initiatives to the opponents. If my team repeated the performance against Inter I would be really happen".
The championship saw a number of alternating performances when it comes to quality of play and this is what Ferrara would like to improve in his team:
"In the championship it seems like we committed a few more mistakes the Milan and Inter but notwithstanding this even though the point difference is an important one it is not impossible to make-up. Obviously, we must avoid mistakes. I think that in comparison to last year there has been an improvement in comparison to last year".
"Juventus was not the only team to improve the squad and therefore the difference between us has remained more or less the same. I think that I have at my disposal a very strong group of players. The team must only make the last step, which is the most difficult one, to make this ulterior advance".
