Chiellini: "Now We Must Win"
In difficult moments, leaders do not hold back: Gigi Buffon addressed a press conference yesterday and today it was the turn of Giorgio Chiellini. The defender, as the guest of Filo Diretto on Juventus Channel, spoke of the current moment of Juventus, of the work with the new coach and of the next match against Livorno:
"It is an important moment in order to recover physical and mental energy and come back. Luckily we have two weeks without any mid-week commitments, during which we can train well and we are doing so. Now, however, we must return to victory, because otherwise we will drift too far from the Champions League zone. As Gigi said, we must try to progress in the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League directly. It will not be easy but we have the duty to try".
Zaccheroni is paying great attention to the tactical aspects: "He is trying to make us understand his footballing credo and give his identity to the team. From our side, we are making ourselves totally available because we want to come together from this period".
"A 3-strong defence? In Livorno, until I was 20 years old, I always played like this and it could be a solution. Surely, it is positive to be able to play with different formations. Then it is up to the coach to adopt the one he thinks is most apt for the particular match".
How long will it take the team to assimilate the instructions of the new coach and return to victory?
"I hope, another two days… I think we have the right cards to win in Livorno, but it will not be easy because we will find a very warm atmosphere which lives such matches very intensely. I feel responsible for this bad year, just like my mates do and we are all wanting to come back because ending a season in this manner is not conceivable".
The change of coach was also a way of making the players face their responsibilities: "It does not mean that we did not feel responsible before. We always faced our responsibilities. When things go wrong it is never the fault of one person but of everyone». Giorgio’s answer is also a message for the disappointed fans: «Living this situation in first person, I think that I feel worse than the supporters and I think it is the case of all the players".
A victory in Livorno would be the best medicine for the bianconeri and for Chiellini it would be of particular significance due to his past with the amaranto:
"It is a particular match: I will be returning to the city where I was born. There are nearly none of the players of my time left, perhaps only Lucarelli and Danilevicius. Returning home is always special but when I enter the field I will not think of that".
With regards to transfer rumors which have spoken of many teams interested in him, Giorgio swept away any doubts:
"I might feel happy about the interest shown by great teams but I have no intention of leaving Juve: I am happy here and hope to stay here for a long time and prolong my stay at the club".
