Marchisio: "We Are Not Taking Anything For Granted"
Claudio Marchisio inaugurated the press conferences of the second part of the Juventus training camp in Varese. The midfielder, who got back to work 3 days ago together with other players fresh from the World Cup, has a great will to start again to leave behind once and for all the last season:
"There are many thing we’d like to forget because the first part of 2010 was certainly not a nice one. My mates and I have to learn from this experience to start off the new season in the best way possible and so as not to repeat the mistakes we made last season".
"Which mistakes? Well, firs and foremost we must not take anything for granted: even if you play for a great team like Juve it does not mean that you will automatically finish amongst the top teams. Many thing have changes, in the team and in the club and seeing new faces I have noted that everyone has a great wish to do well even because Juve cannot afford to have another year like the last one".
Claudio already knows many of his new team mates and vouches for them: "We all know how important this jersey is, even the new signings. I have known Motta for many years as I know Pepe, with whom I played in the national team and I am sure they know very well what the people expect from us and what their task is. When they accepted coming to Juventus they knew what to expect".
"With regards to my old team mates, last year there was great commitment during the week in order to try an overcome criticism. We did not manage and now everyone wants to make up. What I regret? Not having reached the World Cup in good condition. I had a problem to the medial and with the passing of months it got weaker".
To return to the top spots it is very important to have a common objective without thinking of the opponents: "We must not think of the “distance” from other teams. We must work only for ourselves and bind ourselves as much as possible to the same idea. In recent years we lost something on a mental level and this could be seen especially against the “smaller” teams against which we lost too many points. We must only think of ourselves, work to improve and be conscious that this is a strong and competitive team".
With Del Neri, Juventus will be back to a 4-4-2 formation, a formation which will see Marchisio back at the centre of operation: "It is the most classical of systems and I feel well in it seeing that I have nearly always played in that role. I think of myself as a central midfielder but even in the other roles I had to cover last season and in the national team I did not feel bad and I always gave my maximum availability. Now we will have to try to get used to this new system, understand what the coach wants and put it into practice. We must prepare quickly because the Europe League is drawing near".
The new coach immediately left a good impression on Claudio: "Last year he had a great season with Sampdoria and now that he is at Juve an important adventure awaits him. He can’t wait to start seeing the fruit of his work".
Since his very first days, Del Neri spoke very highly of Marchisio: "I feel I am an important player and I want to be such. Like every year I will have to show this on the field to win myself a place in the starting line-up".
Finally, with regards to the transfer rumours about a possible departure of Trezeguet and the arrival of Dzeko, Marchisio has a very clear mind: "David is unique. Perhaps he is a player who touches the ball very rarely but who always scores if he gets the right ball. Statistics speak on his behalf. If I had to choose between him and Dzeko? I would prefer having both in the team".
