Marotta: "The Work Culture Is Fundamental"
The new 2010/2011 season of Juventus starts today officially and the director general for sports affairs Giuseppe Marotta spoke of the situation of the team which is about to leave for Pinzolo:
"We had to start earlier due to the Europa League preliminaries, and therefore the squad at the moment is just an approximate one on a numerical level, seeing that the players fresh from the World Cup are missing and the transfer market ends on the 31st August. For this reason, we had to turn to the youth sector".
Asked at what percentage is the team ready, Marotta answered: "We are working in line with the time foreseen with regards to team construction. I am greatly optimistic. The short-term objective has been reached, that is, leaving for Pinzolo with a homogenous squad on a technical and tactical level so that Del Neri can organize his work".
"The next objective is that to reinforce it with quality and absolute value and this is what we are trying to do during this transfer window, while always keeping in mind the guidelines of the club".
Marotta then spoke of two important concepts, that of a culture of work and the way the transfer market is tackled: "I am sure that with the work of Del Neri, the resources we have can express a very high level. Obviously Juventus will be acting on the transfer market as in its tradition, that of a team which buys rather than sells, even though this must be done, if necessary, keeping in mind the various situations, including the will of the players".
"At the moment, I think that up to now on the transfer market, there have been no big hits. Up to now, we have done what we thought was right and we are careful for all the opportunities the transfer market may offer in order to increase the quality of the team".
Marotta then defined what the “made in Italy” concept means: "Italianization does not mean closing the doors to international players, but developing a model both through the strengthening of the youth sector and inclusion of Italian players in the squad. I think that Italy, apart from the World Cup, expressed a level of quality with regards to individual player of a high quality".
Honoured by the words of president Agnelli, who defined him as being the best signing of Juventus, ("The words of the President are a stimulus and an incentive"), Marotta spoke of the objectives: "Our commitment is to win, even though we must measure up with the opponents".
"Juve wants to do so and at the same time define its model, through the reduction of the average age and the containing of the costs. This is the model that we will be following. I am convinced that through a great certainty in our means and through work we can improve".
