(Bari - Juventus 1-0) Determination Not Enough At The San Nicola
The Juve seen on the field at the San Nicola in Bari is one characterized by new faces. In fact Del Neri fielded 6 of the new signings in the starting line-up, including Krasic and Quagliarella.
The bianconeri are determined to start off on the right foot and on the 1st minute Motta is grounded after recovering a ball. Bari, however immediately show they have no intention of letting Del Neri’s lads have it easy and on the 3rd minute a Barreto attempt goes high. Two minutes later, the referee denies Juve a corner.
It is the 6th minute when there is a corner for Juve after some good action by Krasic: the ball reaches Bonucci who heads just wide. A good Quagliarella shot goes just wide two minutes later.
On the 10th minute, Felipe Melo is stopped while trying a good incursion. Three minutes later there is a free-kick for Juve: a Marchisio attempt is blocked by the defence. Juve are piling up the pressure.
The 17th minute sees Chiellini showing great skill as he intervenes on Barreto. One minute later, Alvarez is stopped for off-side as he enters the Juve area.
On the 20th minute, Krasic is stopped by Masiello as he tries a run towards goal and two minutes later there is a great save by Storari on Ghezzal.
The 24th minute sees a corner for Bari but Storari punches away. Bari are trying to attack but the Juve defence is holding well.
It is the 28th minute when Quagliarella is anticipated by the Bari keeper and one minute later a De Ceglie cross is cleared by the defence. Juve are attacking incessantly and on the 31st minute a Del Piero first-timer goes just wide.
One minute later, Pepe puts a ball in for De Ceglie who just misses impact with the ball. On the 34th minute it is Del Piero exchanges the ball with Melo whose shot is deviated into corner: the defence clears after the cross from the flag.
On the 38th minute a powerful Krasic shot is saved by Gillet. Great debut for the Serbian national.
Bari react and on the 40th minute, a Belmonte shot goes high over the bar. Juve try to insist but the Bari defence manages to clear. On the 42nd minute the bianconeri are close to scoring thanks to Motta on the right.
Juventus receive a cold shower on the 43rd minute as Donati beats Storari for the opener with a powerful shot: 1-0.
The referee gives 4 minutes of stoppage time and on the 48th minute there is a corner for Juve however Quagliarella stopped for a foul in attack on the keeper. The first half ends with Juve trailing by 1-0.
Martinez comes on for Krasic before the start of the second half. A De Ceglie cross is cleared by the defence on the 2nd minute and seconds later Chiellini stops Alvarez as he is about to attempt a shot on goal.
It is the 3rd minute when a Motta shot goes wide. Three minutes later there is a corner for Bari as a Donati shot is deviated by the defence.
On the 8th minute, Gillet saves on a good Martinez attempt and two minutes later Del Piero is stopped for off-side as he enters the area. Lanzafame comes on for Pepe on the 13th minute.
Banti denies Juve a penalty as Lanzafame is grounded in the area on the 15th minute. Three minutes later, Sissoko comes on for Melo. The former Bari player is in good shape and highly determined and on the 19th minute, his shot goes high over the bar. One minute later, a revolving shot by Lanzafame goes wide.
On the 22nd minute, Quagliarella does not mange to deviate a cross and the ball is lost. Two minutes later, a Donati attempt goes high.
A Lanzafame shot goes wide on the 25th minute. One minute later, there is a free-kick for Juve after a foul on Lanzafame: Del Piero puts the ball into the area but martinez heads wide. Seconds later, a Quagliarella attempt goes wide.
De Ceglie clears a Ghezzal attempt on the 29th minute. Martinez has problems and is forced to play the rest of the match visibly in pain and unable to contribute.
Bari try to hold Juve back but Del Neri's lads are determined to fight on and on the 35th minute Qualiarella tries a pass towards Del Piero but the defence clears. One minute later, De Ceglie stops Almiron after a very dangerous initiative.
On the 38th minute, a Motta attempt from outside the area is saved by Gillet. Two minutes later, De Ceglie is stopped as he enters the area.
It is the 45th minute when Quagliarella tries a first-timer but the ball goes wide. On the first of the 2 minutes of stoppage time allotted by the referee, there is a free-kick for Juve: Del Piero’s attempt goes wide.
The last bit of action of the match comes on the 47th minute when there is a free-kick for Juve after a foul on Lanzafame: Del Piero puts the ball into the area but Chiellini heads high.
Juve’s start to the championship did not have the desired result. The bianconeri tried hard and showed great determination but a Donati gem denied them any points in the first outing. The next championship match will be in two weeks time due to the international matches.
