Europa League: A Long Road
Two days before the return match against Shamrock Rovers: on Thursday night at the Stadio Braglia in Modena, exactly one week after the match in Dublin, Juventus will once again play against the Irish side in the return match of the third preliminary round of the Europa League.
The bianconeri, strong from the 0-2 victory in the first leg, will make it through by winning, drawing or even losing by 0-1. A 0-2 result in favour of the Irish side would mean extra time and eventually penalties.
If they had to make it past Shamrock, Juventus would qualify for the play-offs (which will be played on the 19th and 26th August): in addition to the 35 teams coming from the 3rd preliminary round another 15 teams which have been eliminated from the Champions League third preliminary round will join as well as 24 teams which qualified directly following their final standings in their respective championships (Napoli and Palermo from Italy).
The draws for the play-offs will be held on Friday 6th August at 13:30hrs in Nyon in Switzerland.
The 37 teams which make it through even from this round will be added to the 10 teams eliminated from the play-offs of the Champions League as well as Atletico Madrid holders of the trophy. In all the group phase will be made-up of 48 teams (draws to be held on August 27th in Montecarlo).
Before all this, however, the bianconeri will have to eliminate Shamrock Rovers. The return matches of the third preliminary round will all be played on Thursday 5th August with the exception of Rapid Vienna-Beroe Stara Zagora on schedule this afternoon at 18:00hrs.
