Del Neri’s Faith
Juventus is preparing to face the away match in Udine and Del Neri is well conscious of the importance of the match. The draws against Sampdoria and Lech Poznan left a bitter taste but made Juventus conscious of the fact that it has a strong character:
"If we conceded less goals we would be in a better position – began Del Neri in the press conference -. Worries are part of the football world but also are securities and not all we did up to now should be discarded. We definitely have to improve and make up for the mistakes. The ones against Sampdoria and Lech were very different matches when it comes to how we conceded the goals. Against Samp we erred as a department, against Lech the errors were made by individual players".
"If we hadn’t conceded the goal on the 92nd minute everyone would have spoken of a great comeback. There were mistakes but also positive things like having created many goal opportunities in contrast to what we obtained. When we become more careful and a bit luckier things will be better. Clearly, a lot is expected from us and therefore the things we manage to do well are appreciated less then the difficulties".
Against the Poles, Juventus showed great low ball play in the second half, while during the first the team based its play more on long balls like last season: "On the other side there are also the opponents who press and create difficulties and then they perhaps change attitude. It is not that we keep the ball low because long balls were an error in the past. With two tall players we could even turn to long balls".
Juve needs time to sharpen the mechanisms but saying how much time is needed is impossible: "Only God knows how much time is needed… I am mortal and do not have a crystal ball. I hope we can improve as quickly as possible and we are working for this".
Against Udinese the bianconeri will be facing an important test and the fact that the friulani are last in the table with zero points must not defy anyone: "Udinese played very well against Inter, has good players and is well fielded. It will be a difficult match but which match isn’t in this championship? Zero points at this moment count as much as the two of spades. The championship has just begun and the table cannot express the true values of the team. Udinese has Inler, Asamoah, Sanchez, Di Natale... It is a good team and therefore we must be careful and have an attitude of healthy antagonism".
Asked about Di Natale, who in summer decided to stay at Udine when it seemed that he was going to sign for Juventus, Del Neri answered: "We have an excellent relationship with Antonio. He made his choice and this must be respectes and I think it even makes him honourable. He did not refise Juve but decided to stay in Udine because he is loved there and has set his roots".
The subject changed to the line-up Del Neri will be fielding tomorrow and the coach left a few doubts even though he did reveal a few decisions he has taken: "Amauri is available like all the other attackers and this is what’s important. Who starts the match or enters the field later does not count much. The impoartnat thing is that they are well and that when they are called to the cause they manage to give their input. Aquilani? Melo and Marchisio will be playing tomorrow. At the moment they are the best duo but it is not said that the day after tomorrow the situation is different. We have 5 or 6 consecutive matches and everyone deserves to play".
With regards to the defence new solutions were proposed like Chielini as left fullback or Rinaudo on the right: "Chiellini on the left? I don’t think so because he is a guarantee as a central defender and I don’t think it is the right time to disrupt the defence. Rinaudo played as fullback sometimes even with Palermo. Obviously, he cannot be Maicon, he can be right fullback in a certain situation but cannot cross ten times in a match. One must never forget the characteristics of individual players and he is more a central defender then a fullback".
Besides the role is covered by Motta in whom Del Neri has absolute faith: "Motta has always had to deal with difficult players. First Cassano, on Sunday Sanchez or Di Natale…These players can confuse many Serie A players and if they play in the national team it is because they are of high quality. I hope Marco learns quickly, is serene and works to improve in those qualities which perhaps at the moment are seen less".
Finally a thought about Bonucci: "The experience of leading a department like the Juventus defence is very important and if one is young even better. Youngsters must be waited for and Bonucci is an excellent player. He has to mature, but he is a player of great potential and is an international. We have the central defence of Italy and therefore we are very serene".
