Three goals suffered in the first half and the USA having beaten Egypt 3-0 led to the azzurri being eliminated from the Confederations Cup for having scored one goal less then the Americans.
Five bianconeri were on the field from the start: Buffon, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Camoranesi and Iaquinta. The first half saw Buffon making a couple of brilliant saves thus diminshing the damage while Camoranesi was an absolute protagonist in the second half. Good performances also by the other bianconeri.
The Brazilian goals were scored by Luis Fabiano (twice) and an own goal by Dossena.
