Juventus And UNESCO Against Racism

“Kick racism” is the Award name, instituted by Torino UNESCO Centre and supported by Juventus, presented today during opening session of the Convention “La Diaspora dei giovani africani in Italia. Le associazioni di giovani italiani e africani si incontrano” (The Diaspora of young Africans in Italy. Associations of young Italians and Africans meet each others).

The Award, addressed to young people between 18 and 25 years old and to Torino District high schools, is born by the correspondence between Juventus and Torino UNESCO Centre which, together, want to promote the values of social inclusion and respect of differences, also through a communication campaign that will have some of Juventus’ players as main characters.

The award – which Notice of Competition will be publicized on www.centrounesco.to.it, from Monday 23rd – foresees the assignment of two Scholarships, for school and academic year 2009/2010, to a Second Degree Institute who showed good skills in favor of fighting racism and integration and to a student aged between 18 and 25 who took meaningful actions, always in favor of fighting racism and integration. Winners (chosen by a jury properly appointed by UNESCO Centre and by Juventus) will be disclosed within August 31st, 2010.

“Soccer is heritage of a single race. Human race” is instead the communication campaign claim, foreseeing the distribution of flyers at the stadium during home matches (it will start next Sunday November 22nd, for Juventus-Udinese), one advertisement that will have Amauri, Giovinco, Del Piero and Sissoko as main characters and an advertising campaign that will be posted on juventus.com internet site and published on “Hurrà Juventus”.

By this initiative, Juventus means to give a real signal of commitment to promote values linked to sport in which it recognizes itself, and wants to concretely support young people involved in integration and social inclusion.

"The agreement signed with Juventus – said Maria Paola Azzario Chiesa, Chairman of Torino UNESCO Centre – ennobles soccer as privileged and effective medium to convey UNESCO’s own values. Young people communication and training are fundamental instruments to integration and mutual understanding. We are sure that the reply to this project joined with the “bianconera” Company will be significant and a stimulus to continue our collaboration in the future".
