The Juventus Of Large Numbers Returns!
It is Juve that reached the international break after playing with numbers. In Bergamo, Ciro Ferrara’s team once again managed to score another 5 for the second time in 10 days, after the one against Sampdoria. The total number of goals scored in the last 3 championship matches has risen to 12.
This goes up to 13 when one considers the Champions League match against Maccabi Haifa, half of which were scored by Mauro Camoranesi (4) nd David Trezeguet (3).
Another two statistics, much more consistant, that made the news after the match against Atalanta are the 400th appearance of Fabio Cannavaro in the Serie A and 167 goals by Trezeguet with the Juventus jersey.
The captain of the national team has reached another milestone in his very long career which begun on the 7th March 1993 during Juventus-Napoli 4-3, a match which also saw Ciro Ferrara on the field with Napoli and Antonio Conte (with Juventus), the two coaches who were seated on opposite benches yesterday.
It was the first of 58 matches played for Napoli which will be followed by 212 with Parma and 50 with Inter. With the match in Bergamo, the bill with Juventus has risen to 80 in just over two seasons. This is an impressive fact if one thinks that in his first two seasons with Juventus (2004/05 and 2005/06), Cannavaro only missed two championship matches.
For David Trezeguet it was not the case of reaching a round figure but a myth of Juventus history. With his 167th goal, Trezeguet equalized Omar Sivori’s record in the fourth place of the special goal-scorers table of all times. Ahead of the striker are the unreachable Alessandro Del Piero with 262 (and ready to go on adding to it), Giampiero Boniperti with 179 and Roberto Bettega with 178.
The goal in Bergamo was 121st in the Serie A in addition to the 15 scored in the Serie B, 2 goals in the Coppa Italia, 1 in the Italian Super Cup, 24 in the Champions League and 3 in the Champions League preliminaries.
The bill was opened on the 19th September 2000 when he scored the match winner in the 2-1 victory against Panathinaikos in the Champions League. The 21st October saw the first goal in the championship at the Meazza against Milan, which was fundamental to succeed in the comeback which was completed on the 2-2 by Conte. Nine years ago, at this time of the year (5th November), he scored the first double in Reggio Calabria.
