Del Piero "The Goal In The First Leg Is Important"
Four goals in four matches. The 2008/09 edition of the Champions League continues to be full of satisfaction for Alessandro Del Piero. In fact the Juventus captain began his scoring streak, excluding the goal against Artmedia in the preliminaries, with a goal against Zenit. A magical free-kick, the first of a series.
"That sort of thing doesn’t always succeed – said the captain while speaking to the journalists present at the press conference -, luckily in the first leg it was a success and it helped us win an important match. Obviously I will try to repeat it tomorrow".
A goal tomorrow would have a special meaning for Del Piero, not only because he would become the current top scorer in the competition but also because it would be his 250 th goal for Juventus and the best way to forget the defeat against Inter:
"Last Saturday’s match is one of the sort in which any result can be acceptable. However, at the moment the three points lost are not decisive for the title race and the defeat will not make us change our objectives. We will continue with the same will to win which allowed us to obtain good results during the last period".
After having spell-bound the Bernabeu, the captain would like to leave his mark even in Russia . The match against Zenit will not be an easy one, especially when one takes into consideration the fact that Advocaat’s team, who finished the league out of the European spot, will be doing all in their power to gain access to the next round.
"We know we are going to face a good opponent, dangerous in all sectors of the field. Perhaps recently they did not do so well but this doesn’t make them less dangerous".
