Coppa Italia: Only One Previous Encounter With Catania
The Coppa Italia match against Catania takes us back in time by quite a number of years, precisely to the Summer of 1982 when the extraordinary Juventus who had in its ranks six new world champions and two new foreign players, Platini and Boniek, went to Sicily to play the first match of the sixth group of the cup against Catania.
The stadium was obviously full. The star-studded Juventus was to play against Catania: an occasionally definitely not to be missed by the warm Sicilian public.
Wearing the Catania shirt and playing as right fullback was Claudio Ranieri, the current Juventus coach.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw with goals scored by Mastropasqua for the hosts and Domenico Marocchino for the bianconeri.
Let us hope that the memory of this match brings luck since that season, Juventus coached by Giovanni Trapattoni won the trophy.
