All About Juventus-Bologna
After the Champions League, Juventus are ready to get back to the championship. The Olimpico will host Bologna, a team which was capable of playing really well away from the Dall’Ara, and this especially thanks to the goals of a great former Juventus striker: Marco Di Vaio who is back to being a dangerous attacker.
Juventus.com presents some useful information to help you follow tonight’s match.
BOLOGNA AWAY FROM THE DALL’ARA
3 victories, 5 draws and 6 defeats. The progress shown by Bologna away from home is better then that registered inside its home walls, collecting 14 points out of a total of 26. With their first coach, Daniele Arrigoni, they won their first match 2-1 against Milan on the first match day. The next game however saw a heavy away defeat of 5-1 against Cagliari at the Sant’Elia and this saw the change on the bench with the new coach being Sinisa Mihajlovic.
With the new coach Bologna achieved a series of 4 away consecutive matches all ending in a draw and this was only interrupted by two consecutive victories against Catania (2-1) and in Bergamo (1-0 against Atalanta). In the latest matches away from Emilia, Di Vaio and friends managed to collect just one point in the match against Napoli as opposed to two defeats against Udinese (1-0) and in Rome against Lazio (2-0).
BOLOGNA’s SQUAD
In comparison to the average of the Serie A, Bologna has a team which is made up of older players. The number of players over 30 is 14: goalkeepers Francesco Antonioli and Roberto Colombo; defenders Manuel Belleri, Marcello Castellini, Salvatore Lanna and Cristian Zenoni; midfielders Cesar, Davide Bombardini, Simone Confalone, Massimo Mutarelli and Sergio Volpi; attackers Adailton, Marco Di Vaio and Massimo Marazzina.
The most utilized players up to now are Antonioli and Di Vaio (27 matches), Valiani (25), Terzi and Mudingayi (24).
JUVENTUS-BOLOGNA IN MARCH
Juventus-Bologna was played 11 times during the month of March. The statistics do not entirely favour the bianconeri when one considers the large number of draws. In fact the match ended in a tie 6 times.
The rossoblu managed to beat Juventus at the Stadio Comunale on the 4th of March 1962 with a 3-2 end result and a victory which was much bigger then the result suggests with the guests being 3-0 in front in the first hour of the match. Juventus’ 4 victories come from different periods of time.
The first is back in 1934, a year in which the bianconeri won the championship and in which the Emiliani were beaten 4-1. A more exciting match was the 2-1 victory during the 1971/72 championship which gave Juventus 2 decisive points for the victory of the 14th scudetto. On that occasion, Bologna ended the first half ahead by 1-0 thanks to a goal by Perani. IN the second half, Vycpalek’s Juve managed to turn round the result within 120 seconds between the 26th and the 27th minutes thanks to goals scored by centre-forward Anastasi and full-back Marchetti.
Even the 2-0 obtained on the 19th of March 1989 came totally in the second half, this time thanks to goals by Laudrup and Rui Barros. Finally, a very exciting and rather strange match was the one ended with a 2-1 on the 3rd of March 2002.
The two teams seem to be stuck in a draw achieved with goals by Zauli and Trezeguet who answered to one another by scoring one minute before the half-time. A few seconds from the final whistle an incredible own-goal by Tarantino gave Lippi’s team a decisive victory which will be important for the title race against Inter and the final victory on the 5th of May.
THE GREAT EX
Marco Di Vaio is the most awaited player for the match between Juventus and Bologna. The current championship top-scorer – 19 goals scored up to now – toured the world before finding a new life in the city of the two towers.
Brought up by Lazio, the attacker from Rome played for Bologna, Bari, Salernitana, Parma, Genoa as well as abroad for Valencia and Monaco. He was transferred to Juventus in the Summer of 2002 a few days after having scored against the bianconeri in the Super Cup final played in Libya ( a goal which was rendered useless by the two scored by Del Piero).
During the two seasons spent in Turin, Di Vaio scored 18 goals in 55 matches. One must not forget his European performances in which he scored two goals each time against Feyenoord, Dinamo Kiev and Real Sociedad at the Delle Alpi.
From a style point of view, the goals which remain unforgettable because of the technique used are those in Juventus-Perugia (scudetto celebrations 2002-03) and in Milan-Juventus, a first timer with the right leg destined for the top corner.
