In The Citizens’ Den – 34 Years Later
It was a difficult start to a triumphant edition. Juventus met Manchester City on one occasion which dates back to the 1976/77 UEFA Cup, an edition which began with the two-legged encounter with the two clubs from Manchester in the round of 64 and round of 32. The bianconeri, who overcame the two English obstacles reached the final which they won against Athletic Bilbao in what was to be the first European triumph of a long series.
Against City, the match was a vibrant one and was decided by a header scored by Kidd one minute before half time. Giovanni Trapattoni, in what was his European debut with Juventus – an adventure which lasted a decade – fielded the following formation: Zoff, Cuccureddu, Gentile; Furino, Morini, Scirea; Causio, Tardelli, Bettega, Benetti, Marchetti.

Del Piero: "An Important Test"
"We have undertaken a route which we hope we can consolidate in the next matches. Defining this trophy as our final objective is still too premature but it is definitely an important test to undertsand what we can achieve. I am not thinking so much of the final victory but rather of making through to the next round".
Alessandro Del Piero does not want to look too far ahead because he knows perfectly welll that victorious seasons are built one match at a time. The match tomorrow against City will be a stimulating match for Alex:
"Statistically it is very hard to play in England. We know we will be facing a team which is very well equipped from a technical aspect, which is going though a great moment because they beat Chelsea. It will be a difficult match but we must not fear it. I will be taking tomorrow’s match as a new challenge. We must try to cancel the latest defeats against English teams and emerge with a positive result»".
Manchester brings sweet memories to Del Piero, like when he scored the penalty in the first match against United and drove Juventus to the first victory by an Italian team at the Old Trafford: "The memory is a magnificent one. We played against United many times and winning there was marvellous".
City might not be as famous as their cousins, but recently the club invested a great deal in order to reduce the gap: "They undertook a precise route since a few years ago with investments which were very important signing players of great quality. It is one of the roads to reach success and City has a great number of players of quality. Then at the end of the day it is always the field to establish the difference between victory and defeat".
Asked whether he ever experienced a similar situation in his 17 years at Juventus with a team which has been so vastly rinnovated, the captain answered: "There might be similarities with other moments in the past but the interepreters, the period, the football are different. We began this road and it is right that it is new. I hope that something similar to the past can happen at the end of the season and by this I mean success".
After bthe away match in Manchester, the team will be called to that at the San Siro against Inter, but Del Piero does not intend to get distracted: "We must only think of tomorrow even though we know how important Inter-Juve is, because to face the match against the nerazzurri well we must do well tomorrow".
The journalists referred to the words of former team mate Vieira who speaking of his year as a bianconero, defined Juve as one of the strongest teams he ever played for, reminding everyone that to build another one as strong a few months are not enough:
"The time with Patrick was a nice one. To build a strong team like that one, time is needed. I can’t but hope that it happens fast but I don’t know at what point we are at the moment. The basis is very good and we must have the strength, results apart, to go ahead on our path".
Finally, the captain revealed a secret: "Noel Gallagher (leader of Oasis and a friend ofAlex) will come to watch the match. He lives here and will definitely support Manchester".

Del Neri: "A Difficult Test To Verify Our Progress"
Juventus is preparing to play against Manchester City in the second match day of the group phase of the Europa League. The match against the Citizens will be comparing the best defence of the English championship with the best attack of the Italian one:
"These are statistics which can be changed – replied Del Neri – but it will be a great match. We will be playing against an important team in English football and we hope to do well".
The match against City will be a few days before the championship match against Inter: "I think of one match at a time. Tomorrow we will be playing against a verys trong team which was built to win. It will be an important test to see if we have matured. We have to try and play well tomorrow, and then we will think of the match against Inter."

"I don’t think the team can suffer on a physical aspect. The important thing is to be psychologically fit. We must recover well and rest because rest is an imprtant element in the life of an athlete".
Fine-Tuning At City Of Manchester

Storari: "We Are Very Much About The Europa League"
First Manchester City and then Inter. In three days, Juventus will be called to play two of the strongest teams in Europe and hence two of the most dangerous attacks.
The Juve defence is working extremely hard and so is Marco Storari. The goalkeeper spoke before the departure for the away match in England. With particular reference to the match tomorrow night, the only one which the team is paying complete attention to:
The Juve defence is working extremely hard and so is Marco Storari. The goalkeeper spoke before the departure for the away match in England. With particular reference to the match tomorrow night, the only one which the team is paying complete attention to:
"We know we are facing an important week but we must not think of Inter. This important match awaits us and we are approaching it with a high morale after the victory against Cagliari. We care very much about the Europa League and we want to get to the bottom of that competition. As the saying goes in such cases, we are at the ball so let’s dance!"
At the City of Manchester Stadium, Storari will have to deal with a first class attack. The name to keep in mind mostly is that of Tevez:
"He is an excellent player but he is not the only one. Manchester City spent a great deal this summer to try and win. We know that in these matches we conceded a great number of goals and we must improve the defensive phase. We need the right equilibrium on the field and we are working hard to learn the teachings of the coach".

Martinez: "Juve, Nothing Is Impossible"
"I am well, I have recovered by working for 4 weeks and was already available for the match against Cagliari. I am only lacking match practice".
Jorge Martinez is urging to go. The Uruguay national, who was yesterday present at the Juventus Club Montecalieri, returned to base and spoke on Juventus Channel, confiding all his will to leave a mark on this team. The opportunity might arise soon, seeing the many upcoming matches:
"I hope so because like everybody else I would like to play even so as to find my best form. It will be up to the coach to decide when the moment is right. The important thing is that I have recovered from my injury".
Juve is prepared to face a difficult succesion of matches with Manchester City and Inter the first in line: with regards to the latter Jorge has a number of sweet memories seeing that last year, when playing for Catania, he score one of the most beautiful goals in his career against the nerazzurri:
"I will never forget that 3-1 victory against Inter during which I scored a beautiful goal. Now however, I am at Juventus and I must do well here. I hope to play for a few minutes but most of all that the team wins".
The bianconeri will be playing the two big matches after the victory against Cagliari which reignited the enthusiasm towards the team:
The bianconeri will be playing the two big matches after the victory against Cagliari which reignited the enthusiasm towards the team:
"It was an important victory for self-esteem. Against Palermo things did not go well but we made-up immediately and this allowed us to maintain a high morale. This Juve is nearly completely new and therefore time is necessasry to get to the top but there are players of quality and on the long run I am convinced that we will do very well. The scudetto? It is difficult, but not impossible, because we have the qualities to reach great heights".
Motta: "City Are A Highly Respectable Team"
After two away matches in the preliminaries – in Dublin and Graz – for Juventus it is time for the first trip in the group phase of the Europa League. The fixtures of Group A present the hardest away match on paper, the one away to Manchester City.
The bianconeri continue to prepare on the field for the match, with the morale back to being a good one after the victory against Cagliari. This can be seen from the words of Marco Motta on the Sky official website:
The bianconeri continue to prepare on the field for the match, with the morale back to being a good one after the victory against Cagliari. This can be seen from the words of Marco Motta on the Sky official website:
"After the victory on Sunday we once again moved from rags to riches. In Udine, according to me we played a perfect match, which was followed by the defeat against Palermo, at the end of a match which saw us lacking a bit of attention notwithstanding we played a good match."
"Which is the true Juve? It is the one that is trying to make ends meet after the arrival of 10 new elements this Summer. Assembling so many pieces of a practically new team is not something that can happen overnight. Winning helps winning and this will allow us to align ourselves with the expectations of the supporters, the club and a great coach like ours".
Assembling a new team in just a few weeks is hard for anyone. One of the example is in fact Manchester City, the opponents of Juve on Thursday. Roberto Mancini saw the signing of new champions with his team but the English side is still searching for the right track. Motta confirmed:

"City is a confirmation that big names and huge expenses are not enough to obtain great results. It is clear that they are a highly respectable opponent and we must be on the alert".
Finally, a look at the championship which on Sunday sees one of the most awaited matches: the away match at the Meazza against Inter. The nerazzurri remain the favourites for the title.

"I am of the same opinion of Giorgio Chiellini – concluded the defender. Inter and Milan are candidates for the scudetto. We on the other hand, must be ready in case they make mistakes. I am used to drawing a balance at the end and I will draw a balance at the end both when it comes to the team’s season and mine, knowing that work always pays-off".

Inter-Juventus, the big match of the 6th match day will be played without any suspension problems. There are in fact no nerazzurri or bianconeri in the list of players suspended by the sport authorities.

Milos Krasic’s Magic Night
After much applause during the first matches, Milos Krasic only missed to score to get deeper into supporters’ hearts. The Serbian duly found it, but that was not enough for him. Three goals in a row, Cagliari beaten and Juve running towards positions better fitting his coat.
Three goals that, not considering the challenge against Palermo, ended a perfect week in the best way possible for Milos. Two victories vs. Udinese and Cagliari, and in both he left his sign (two perfect assists at Friuli Stadium before the tris at the Olimpico), but most of all the birth of his first daughter Mila, last Monday.
After a night as a real star of the match, Krasic was able to express all his joy: "The most important thing is that we won, my three goals are coming after that. I want to thanks all supporters who supported me for the entire match. Thanks to them and to those who helped, I am happy here at Juventus. Now I hope I’ll go on repaying their affection".
Devastating on the pitch, humble and man of the group out of it. The Serbian perfectly immersed himself in this new reality. Also speaking, only in Serbian language for now, waiting for Italian language to become his new language: "Is Juventus Krasic-addicted? Absolutely not, we are a great group and we help one another, this is our power".
After only a month in bianconero, Krasic conquered everyone. Praises are going on – deservedly – and also comparisons. "The one with Pavel Nedved is the hottest one, and not only for the blonde hair. A further spur to do always better. «For me it’s an honor being compared to such a champion, I’ll do my best to try to follow his steps. But most of all to try to do well for Juventus".

Chiellini: "Inter? Now We Think About Manchester"
From the Olimpico’s spotlights to those of Sky. The day after the victory vs. Cagliari and two days prior to departure for Manchester, an important part of Juventus moved to Milano. Giorgio Chiellini, Milos Krasic, Claudio Marchisio, Marco Motta and Marco Storari dressed as “actors for a day” and shot for a series of promo which will be broadcasted in the next days.
The visit was also the occasion to speak about the situation at Juventus. Giorgio Chiellini did, and he spoke live on Sky Sport 24. Many items, not missing a little irony. Here are some of his statements.
More serenity. "After yesterday victory we are all more serene. Against Cagliari we made a very good match and deserved to win. Compared to the challenge vs. Palermo, we had a different approach, putting the right strength and concentration we have not had on Thursday".
Hunting for balance. "This summer we started well, suffering very few goals. Then when the championship started we found some difficulties, mostly from balance point of view, between the goals we score and those we suffer. But we are sure it’s only a matter of time. I hope we’ll soon win a match 1-0, for us defenders this would really be the top".
A winning championship for Livorno. "Let’s hope that a livornese could celebrate the winning of the Championship. Obviously I would like to be the one celebrating, but if it was not so, I hope Allegri is going to win it. I’ve been knowing him since years, he is a good trainer and deserves the best".
All together, also with supporters. "In this period there is little time to train and this is not very positive for automatisms. But the team has the right mood and the desire to do well. And also our supporters understood this. They showed it on Thursday, when they applauded even though we lost the match".
Agnelli’s presence. "This year there is a different mood all around. I think that this is because of Andrea Agnelli. His presence can be felt and it evokes the myth of the Avvocato. Also something inside of our supporters changed".
Future Captain? "It’s too soon to speak about being captain in the future, I hope Alex and Gigi last much longer. For sure I owe so much to this team and to this Club. In Torino I became a real player and a real man".
Is the season after a World Cup particular? "Seasons following to World Cups are always particular. It’s not easy starting at best for those who took part to the event. But I am sure that little by little all values will come out. Our target? We absolutely must go back play the Champions League, it’s too important, for prestige as well as for economic reasons. If Inter and Milan do not misfire it will be difficult keeping up, but we’ll be able to say something too, if they miss something".
Inter can wait. "We are not yet thinking about Sunday match. On Thursday we’ll meet Manchester City, and for us it will be a fascinating match, but also an important test. Moreover, we care about Europa League".
Better in the middle. "Me quarterback? I feel better in the middle, but I’ve never said I don’t want to play on the left. I adapt to the team’s needs".

First Training Session For Manchester
A little effort more to see the end of the first tour de force of the season. After having played five matches in two weeks, the bianconeri are going to make the last two efforts before leaving space to the National Teams. And what efforts!
On Thursday the Europa League match at Manchester City’s home, the team leading Round A with three points. On Sunday night the big match vs. Inter at the Meazza stadium.
To prepare the two matches, most of all the one in England, the team has immediately gone back to work, a few hours from the convincing victory over Cagliari. The stars of this success had the usual moisturizing session on the pitch and in the gym. Usual activity for all the others. De Ceglie and Traore went on with their personalized program.
About Amauri. After having left the pitch before the end of yesterday evening match due to a distortion to his right ankle, the forward will undergo some thorough checks in the late afternoon.

Felipe Melo, Aquilani, Bonucci, Iaquinta, Rinaudo: Recations
Felipe Melo: "We are on the right track"
It was another positive performance. The second season of Felipe Melo with Juventus is continuing in the best of manners. After having played alongside Marchisio and Sissoko, against Cagliari the Brazilian national was able to test the capabilities of Aquilani the latest signing for the Juventus midfield.
At the end of the match against the Sardi, Felipe Melo spoke on Juventus Channel: "We had a so and so start but at the end of the day we played a great match. We are improving and are on the right track. We must continue like this, especially in the attacking phase and improve in the defence while trying to make mistakes which we made even today".
"Aquilani? He is a great player and I am happy to have champions like him by my side just like Marchisio and Sissoko. The new arrivals have adapted well. We did not sign Ibrahimovic but many excellent players who will help us do well. Above all, we are forming a group and together with the supporters who are close to us we are all united to do well".
Aquilani: "A match which gives me hope"
After having played for a few minutes in a couple of matches, the Juve supporters could finally see the true Alberto Aquilani. Fielded in the starting line-up, the Roman midfielder was one of the best players in the match against Cagliari, forming a great central duo with Felipe Melo, another positive aspect for Del Neri for the rest of the season.
At the end of the match, Aquilani spoke on Juventus Channel: "I am very happy with the performance of the team. Today we needed a victory and we got it. I needed to play to add minutes to my stamina and tonight’s performance gives me hope. What can this Juve reach? We need equilibrium and stay calm. Now we have two difficult matches but our objective is to reach very high".
Bonucci: "We are doing well in attack and will improve in defence"
"Every day the coach tries to help the attack and today we managed to hit with the verve of Krasic and therefore we should thank Milos. We must try to improve the defensive phase. With more attention for example, we could have avoided the first goal by Matri. I should have stayed further down and cover more. We will work during the week in order to improve». Bonucci made an analysis of the match against Cagliari and explained that Juve must try to improve in the coming weeks".
"We have been working together for a very short time and we do not have so many training session to improve the defensive phase. We always try to field what the coach tell us during the week. Now we must try to find the best understanding possible and to make an extra effort during training to understand how we can improve".
Iaquinta: "An important victory. We are improving"
"It was important to win to move to the other side of the table. Now we have 7 points and on Sunday we will be playing an important match against Inter".Vincenzo Iaquinta, after the goals against Udinese and Palermo, did not manage to score against Caglairi, but is nonetheless satisfied with the victory and the physical progress:
"I am improving and am happy with this as I am happy for the hat-trick by Krasic. Slowly we will find the right equilibrium and will lubricate our mechanisms. The feeling with Amauri? We hadn’t played together for so long but we are both finding our form".
Rinaudo: "I am happy with my debut and the victory"
It was a match he will remember for a long time. Leandro Rinaudo made his debut from the very first minute against Cagliari, a match which ended with a convincing and important victory.
The defender from Palermo can leave the Olimpico feeling satisfied: "A debuut with Juventus is different. I tried to be tranquil and think only of the match. During the week we tried this solution well and therefore I felt serene. I cannot help being satisfied with my debut but most of all of the victory by the team. We knows there is still a great deal to do, particularly to improve the defence. The coach is giving us a great deal of advice and we are doing all we can to make him happy".

Del Neri: "We Produce A Lot In Attack But There Is Still A Lot Of Work To Be Done"
"I chose a physical team, also because we needed a bit of turnover seeing the many commitments we have at the moment and because physique is an important quality. In midfield Aquilani guaranteed a certain geometry combined with great quality»".
Del Neri commented his decision to rely on the Amauri-Iaquinta duo: "They both worked as a centre forward and must improve – continued the coach. They have characteristics by which they can co-exist and I have faith in this duo. The satisfaction for the victory against Cagliari must not lead to easy enthusiasm"
"We must think that we did not do anything special but play one match at a time while trying to make the most of our characteristics. In defence we still making too many mistakes and we must improve but surely enough when we score 4 goals in a match…The team produces many goal scoring opportunities and therefore let us look at the glass as half full. We are still deficient in defence but perhaps we are the team that produces most in the whole championship".
The spotlight is all for Krasic, the author of a fantastic hat-trick. Del Neri, during the press conference on the eve of the match, had underlined the importance of the Serbian player within the economy of the Juventus match play:
"I said we are Krasic dependent but perhaps I did not explain myself well. We want to depend on Juve and not on a single player. In order to be ambitious we need to become a team. Milos fit in well, is very important for us but we still have to work hard. How the construction of the new Juventus home is proceeding? Let us say there are still a few open windows but luckily it is not raining much".

Del Neri: "I Expect A Reaction Of Quality"
"It will be an important week in order to understand what Juve can do'. Del Neri charged up his players conscious of the fact that the next matches against Cagliari, Manchester City and Inter can address the season of the bianconeri. The three matches are not yet decisive but important to find faith and results:
'We must not give up after a defeat and it cannot be one match which determines the absolute value of the team. The next matches will be of noticeable importance on a psychological level. The 4-0 against Udinese and the defeat against Palermo show that this Juve has ups and downs but when it comes to character we’re there and even on Thursday the team showed they want to create play both in the first half and the second half. Now I expect a reaction of will and quality'.
Del Neri is convinced that the road taken by the team is the right one: 'I think that the 4-4-2 formation is the right one because it exalts Krasic and other players. We must not celebrate Udine and we must not throw away all the home matches but it is clear that we must avoid the trend. If I’m worried? No, because we always conceded goals with the defence in position. We would be in difficulty if we conceded goals with straight counter-attacks in numerical inferiority. Probably we lack aggressiveness and attention in certain situations'.
Against Palermo, Del Neri tried other solutions besides the 4-4-2: 'Amauri with Krasic, Iaquinta and Del Piero backing them can be an idea for the future but we need a compact defence and we need them to move back. We must find the right equilibrium'.
With regards to the match against Cagliari Del Neri did not reveal anything with regards to the formation: 'Turnover? We’ll see how the lads are and if the conditions to alternate some players exists. What can Martinez give Juventus? For now little, but later he will give physical strength and quality. We must however, always remember that football is played by 11 players and when it is his turn somebody else will have to make space. We Serene judgement is needed in order not to create dualisms but a compact group that gives its input'.

Chiellini: "The Supporters Deserve An Immediate Comeback"
"The approach to the match was perhaps wrong and the fierce concentration we had against Udinese was missing". Giorgio Chiellini returned to speaking of the match against Palermo but the want for a comeback made him look ahead and on Juventus Channel he spoke of the match against Cagliari:
"We are still disappointed and sad but the beauty of football is the possibility of being able to return to the field and try to change our state of mind to invert the trend and return to victory. We are conscious however that it will be hard: I saw Cagliari in the first few match days, they haven’t lost yet and most of all they are a team which defends with 11 players and leave very few opportunities to the opponents".
The difficulty of Juventus at the start of the season according to Giorgio were expected: "There is a lot of work to be done because when you change many players and you try and lower the age of the team it is not easy to be 100% efficient. We must commit less mistakes on a general level but we also manage to create goal scoring opportunities. We miss the equilibrium which is needed to win matches. When we manage to find it we will move smoothly".
What remains from the match against Palermo is the extraordinary affection of the public who never stopped supporting the team: "A big thank you goes to the supporters because we feel their closeness. Against Palermo it was nice to hear their support even when the match was lost or at the end of the match. From our part there is the wish to return this affection as from Sunday".

Martinez Rejoins The Group And Gives A Show. Press Conference By Del Neri On Saturday At 15:30hrs.
Juventus got back to work in Vinovo. The players who were on the field against Palermo had an unwinding session shared between the field and the gym, while the rest of the group had a complete session consisting of warm-up, tactical exercises and a concluding 7-a-side mini-match on a reduced field.
One must note the presence of Martinez who re-joined the group and took part in the mini-match showing his worth with a number of noticeable moves including a scissor kick which allowed Amauri to score by accompanying the ball into goal with his chest.
Paolo De Ceglie trained separately while proceeding with his recovery programme.
On Saturday, the eve of the match against Cagliari, Del Neri will meet the press in a press conference at 15:30hrs at the Media Center in Vinovo.

Agnelli: "The Group Is Being Created"
It was the first management meeting which was held at the construction site of the new stadium, in the offices of the works directors and was the opportunity to show the board members the state of the works.
Andrea Agnelli, at the end of the management meeting met the journalists: "Here you are seeing the Juve of the future – said the President - . Today we visited the construction site together with the board members. We can say that this is the first day in the life of the new stadium, an avant-garde stadium, on the level of the main European teams, open 7 days a week. In Italy we are the first club to reach such an objective".
The President then spoke of football: "The present situation is how I expected it to be. We knew some time would be necessary, a few months are needed for the sports project to take off. The squad is not under discussion. We based ourselves on young players and therefore it is normal that they have less experience but we must give them time".
Agnelli has no doubts with regards to what the team needs to find: "The team is conscious of the quality and must simply find consistency. There is harmony. It can be seen that a group is being created. This can be understood from many things, including the fact that even yesterday the team fought till the very end and then went towards the stands to receive the applause of the supporters: it is a sign that they want to return to being Juve".

Blanc: "The Greatest Sports Complex In Europe"
At the end of the management meeting, Jean-Claude Blanc spoke to the journalists who visited the construction site of the new stadium:
"It is of satisfaction to see the works proceeding one day after another and it will be even more when its ready. We are creating the biggest sports complex in Europe which includes the stadium and all which will be built around it such as the commercial centre, the museum, the area of the Continassa where a Juventus Soccer School centre will be built, the club headquarters and a green park".
The CEO of Juventus spoke of the Premium places and the next steps which include the name of the stadium and its inauguration:
"40% of the Premium places are already sold, as are 50% of the boxes and 75% of the Gianni and Umberto Agnelli stands. With regards to the name Sportfive is working on it. The objective is to have a name before the inauguration which will be between the end of August and beginning of September of next year".

Marotta: "We Still Need Equilibrium"
Giuseppe Marotta, who was asked to comment the match against Palermo, spoke first of all of the affection of the fans who applauded the team at the end of the match: "We must give credit to their great affection".
The Director General for Sport Affairs then commented about the performance: "It is true that when a team loses it means that the merits of the opponents were superior to ours but we are still in a running in phase, the automatisms are not working yet and we have players on the flank who are injured. It is therefore the merit of the opponents but we have a few things to revise. We are missing equilibrium".
Marotta continued with his examination of the match: "I comment this defeat with sane realism. We conceded too much to our supporters. We were not cynical like against Udinese and we were a bit out of luck. These must not be excuses. We are not looking for alibis. It is a defeat which should give us the possibility to make a complete analysis to eliminate the main mistakes in the defensive phase because we manage to score".

Three minutes later, a Motta attempt is saved by the keeper. On the 23rd minute a Motta cross is headed by Amauri but the keeper saves. A Krasic shot grazes the right post 4 minutes later.
It is the 28th minute when a Krasic cross is headed by Amauri with the ball going just wide. Bonucci saves well on Hernandez two minutes later.
On the 33rd minute there is a corner for Juventus: the ball reaches Amauri who's header is saved by Sirigu. From the rebound Melo's shot goes high over the bar.
Juve seem to have taken possession of the Palermo midfield and yet on the 40th minute, there is a free-kick for Palermo: Bovo puts the ball into the for the 0-3. When it rains it pours.
Two minutes later, however, Iaquinta heads home from a Motta cross: 1-3. It is the 45th minute when there is a corner for Juve: the defence manages to clear.
Orsato gives 4 minutes of stoppage time and Juve try their best till the very end. On the 46th minute, A Grygera cross is headed by Krasic but the ball goes just wide and two minutes later, there is a free-kick for Juve: Marchisio puts the ball into the area but Chiellini's cross goes out.
After 94 minutes, the match ends on a 1-3 score for the rosanero, a score which seems rather unjust seeing the many opportunities created by Del Neri’s team.

Del Neri: "Let Us Act Like Juve"
"It would be out of place to be overconfident. We haven’t done anything yet. We are working to obtain the best results and we must spoil ourselves after a victory or feel disheartened if we lose. This risk, however, as far as we are concerned, does not exist. We do not feel enthusiatic easily but we simply think of working".
Gigi Del Neri, who on Thursday night will be celebrating his 700th time as professional coach, immediately cleared the fact that the victory against Udinese must be a point of departure and certainly not a reason to relax. The coach sees the team as being charged-up and in form and wants to take advantage of the moment, and this leads us to think that he will not be adoptinga turn over against Palermo:
"Taking advantage of the psychological qualities when a player is well is more important then the physical state. If he does not have the right state of mind he will not run". For this same reason, Del Neri explained that he worked very hard in the last few days:
"When things go on well there is more dispoistion. If the team is serene you can work better because results give credibility to what you have done. Therefore I prefer working harder when we win rather then when we lose".
In midfield it seems he will be confirming Marchisio and Melo: "They are in very good condition and therefore they will be playing. I have faith in all of my players and Aquilani, Sissoko, Melo and Marchisio are all excellent but it seems to me that the duo that played up to now gives me ample guarantee and therefore there is no sense in changing".
"How I managed to transform Melo? He transforemed himself. He found an environment which welcomed him, a good relationship with the public and has the right behaviour for a champion. I am sure that Juventus in this championship will create an important group".
Luckily the condition of the bianconeri is improving: "They are all well. The problem is that who returns must find consistency in performance. Amauri? The important thing is that he is available also because we are busy on different fronts and there is room for everyone. Martinez? He still has to work. I hope he will be available for Sunday".
"What I think of Krasic? He is a player capable of great runs, very physical but even though he does not have the characteristics of Milos, even Pepe played an excellent amtch in Udine by sacrificing himself. I like to take adavantage of the characteristics of an individual player who distinguishes himslef but also of those who work for their daily bread. Sometimes it is not only quality that counts but even quantity can change the destiny of a match".
On Thursday we will be needing the best Juventus against Palermo who on paper is one of the trickiest teams of the championship: "Difficulties are not only on paper – corrected Del Neri -. Those which Palermo will create are real. Juventus must know that every Sunday is an exam and exams are passed with strength and respect for your opponents and therefore we do not expect Palermo to be strong only on paper but even on the field".
"Pastore? He is a great player. You must guard him well but we will definetly not be marking him man to man. Besides he is not the only one: there is Maccarone, Ilicic...they played a great match against Inter...it will be a delicate match because Palermo has players of great potential".
After Palermo it will be the turn of Cagliari, then Manchester City and Inter: Juventus is about to embaro on a tour de force which could say much about the potential of the bianconeri:
"We still need a bit of time but not to define Juventus as much as to define the championship for which we will need the whole first round...I expect daily imrpovements. We must not take anything for granted if not the fact that we must give our best in every match. We must play like Juventus everytime. The rest is simply chit chat. At the end we will draw our balance".
Finally in response to those who insist that his Juventus is lika team from a province, Del Neri replied: "Juve is not like a team from a province but a down to earth tean whcih means quality but also a will to work. This was made note to me on Sunday and I felt flattered".

Tactics The Protagonist
Work, work and more work. This is the order of the day at Juventus, from which the resounding victory against Udinese was born. The 4 goals at the Friuli are not a good enough reason to sit down and relax but a point of departure.
Del Neri wants Juve to become a perfect machine and for this reason is asking his men to make an extra effort: today for example, the schedule originally included an afternoon session, but the coach from Aquileia, as the perfectionist he is, took advantage of the morning for a specific tactical session. It is in fact a custom of Del Neri to dedicate himself, to each department at a time in order to perfect the movements and mechanisms.
Today it was the turn of the defence, next time it will be the turn of the midfield and the attack. The back line, began the session at 11:00hrs, had lunch at Vinovo and was later joined by the rest of the team for the afternoon session.
In the afternoon it was once again tactics which prevailed, with the whole team, who after a warm-up and gym work worked on the main field. Two teams of 11 men aside simulated the various situations that the team could find itself faced with on Thursday night against Palermo, perfecting the counter-measures. The session came to an end with an exercise dedicated to shots on goal. Giorgio Chiellini worked separately while Krasic after the athletic part, returned to working in the gym.

Pepe: "We Believe In Our Possibilities"
Three matches in seven days, and all as a former player. For Simone Pepe the “amarcord” week started greatly. The clear success against Udinese started at best the triptych now foreseeing the challenges vs. Palermo and Cagliari, other two teams from his past.
A clear and important success, the one achieved at the Friuli stadium. To move the classification and most of all to give everybody a strong signal. To the outside, but also to the inside.
"We believe in our possibilities – Pepe said in exclusive to Juventus Channel -. In Udine the real Juve? I’d say the truth is in the middle. Yesterday we played a perfect match and we have not made mistake we made in other matches".
Now it’s time for forthcoming commitments. Vs. Palermo and Cagliari, the bianconeri will be asked to repeat their Udine performance.
"My rate to Juve? Quite a good one. We are improving and we keep on training hard, trying to do what the trainer asks us for. We’ll have to go on the pitch knowing that for us, every match is fundamental".

Activity Restarts At Vinovo
The team has immediately restarted training at Vinovo. Once the match in Udine has been archived, the bianconeri started working to prepare the next engagement. On Thursday evening, the championship’s 4th match, with Palermo coming to Olimpico.
The bianconeri who took part to the victory at Friuli had the usual moisturizing training session in the gym and on the pitch. The others followed the usual training program. Differentiated with the ball for Martinez and Rinaudo.

Marotta: "Optimist And Serene Concerning Our Future"
The day after the victory vs. Udinese, convincing in score and in performance, there is still satisfaction at Juventus. Satisfaction and the awareness that the one in Friuli has been only the first step and there is still a lot left to do.
Giuseppe Marotta perfectly summed up Juventus moment. Going out of Lega Serie A offices, Sport Department General Manager answered to journalists’ questions. Starting from yesterday match: «I’m really satisfied with the comforting performance of the team against Udinese. We improved, we are aware that there is still a lot left to do but Del Neri’s work is starting to be seen. We are optimistic and serene concerning our future».
In Friuli success, but also in previous performances, we have clearly seen the strength of Del Neri’s group. The unity of purposes will be very useful for the entire season:
"We have no “stars”, in the sense that in such a sport as soccer everybody must work for each others. Juventus is set up this way. During summer we have not bought champions, but we bought very good players anyway. Like Krasic, for example. I have great confidence in him, because if we combine economic entity of the purchase and the player value it’s about a very good investment and I hope he will give satisfaction to our supporters".
Three Championship matches are still too few to make any prediction. But Marotta is already sure of one thing, after a few months of work:
"Juve has victory in its DNA and the players going on the pitch, the Club and the trainer must always give all they can. Maximum effort and deep sense of belonging. This year target is surely ending in the first part of the league".
