Buffon: "Objective Champions League"
First impressions of the new coach
They are definitely very positive, in the sense that, without wanting to uplift or invent whatever, he came along with a very serene manner in order to solve certain situations that create difficulties during a match, like working as a team to avid avoidable errors like the goal against Lazio. His analysis after the match was coherent and with his precise work on the field we can move up the table. He does not have a magic wand but there is a will to follow his work by all.
If he were to change the formation in defence how would you take it?
Every coach has his credo. I think that a 3-strong defence would not be a problem for me. I played with such a formation in Parma with Cannavaro and Thuram. The last thing we should do is speak of the choice of coach. We must only make ourselves available. If we start raising our chins and creating uncertainties we would be making three steps backwards and we don’t want that.
Is tactical or psychological work needed?
It is clear that if self-esteem is not at maximum level, with new methods one tries to re-awaken the mind and rid himself of pessimism.
Ferrara’s dismissal
When a coach is changed it is always a defeat because the laws of football state that it is better to change one men rather then 25, but if the players are intelligent enough they should know that there is no more room for appeal. There is never one guilty person. We are all guilty and the sacking of a coach should be an alarm bell for all. I felt sorry because he started off well, we were compact, conviction and enthusiasm, then premises changed and it was the coach and a friend who paid for it: nobody can feel excluded from a global failure that involved everyone. I am sure that in a time which is shorter then that imaginable Ferrara will prove himself.
Would you look around if Juventus were not to qualify for the Champions League?
It is something I have not considered because I haven’t even considered Juventus being out of the Champions League.
The objectives
There is enough time to reach them, because with this team, if we are in the right form, we can finish up in the top three positions and therefore win direct access to the Champions league which is our objective as is the Europa League.
The supporters
Even though I share their disappointment I am happy they did not target the team. However, I am sorry that recently they targeted certain players and management personnel. It is clear that this does not help us. Their love and affection would be of great support. In these moments, as I said before, everybody is guilty. I hear the supporters’ chants well because I am close to them and I feel sorry when they target team mates who perhaps do not even deserve it.
